Library Assistant I (Part Time)

The City of Falls Church is recruiting for two permanent part-time (20 hours per week) Library Assistant I positions to regularly work weekends as well as one or more weekday shifts and one weekday evening shift. The individuals selected for these positions will be part of the Circulation Department at the Mary Riley Styles Public Library in Falls Church, Virginia.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct service to the public on both of our service desks (Front Information Desk and Youth Desk);
- Assist patrons in the selection and location of materials;
- Perform essential departmental job responsibilities including checking in returned materials, pulling reserved items, processing new patron library cards, updating patron accounts, registering customers for programs, and reserving meeting and study rooms;
- Provide curbside service to the public as needed;
- Provide reader’s advisory to children, teens, and adults;
- Troubleshoot and help patrons with computer skills and questions;
- Assist with stacks maintenance in the library as needed - including shifting, shelf reading, and stacks presentation;
- Perform related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows 10;
- Graduation from high school plus college level course work;
- Experience in public libraries preferred;
- Preferred general knowledge of basic library procedures, methods and techniques;
- Preferred experience working with an Integrated Library System such as Apollo, Sierra, Millennium, SirsiDynax;
- Experience working in a team environment.
Hours:
These are both 20 hour per week positions that will typically be scheduled with regular weekend shifts plus one or more weekday shift and one evening shift each week.
Salary & Benefits: Starting Salary $21,676.50 annually/ $20.84 per hour, depending on qualifications.
