About The Position
This position oversees maintenance operations at the Scottsdale Sports Complex. The 74 acre complex is made up of 10 sand based soccer fields. It plays host to multiple flat field sport practices, regional and national level tournaments.

Selection Process: Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include a panel interview and an assessment exercise. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include:
Fingerprinting
Criminal Background screening for the past 7 years
Motor Vehicle Department Records Check
Drug Screening

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution in Agronomy, Horticulture, Botany or a closely related field.
One year of experience relating to golf course maintenance, parks maintenance, or sports field maintenance.
Must have at least one year of Lead or Supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Arizona driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.
Within six months of hire, an Arizona Pest Control Applicator certification possessing Category 1 (Industrial and Institutional), Category 3 (Ornamental & Turf) and Category 4 (Right-of-Way) must be obtained.
Preferred: International Society of Arboricultural (ISA) Certified Arborist, Extension Turf Grass Certification, Certified SportField Manager and/or Arizona Certified Landscape Professional.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:
Landscaping and ground maintenance principles and practices.
Nutrient requirements of cool and warm season turf grasses and mowing practices.
Effective supervisory techniques and budget management competency.
Proper horticulture practices for sand based sports fields.
Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies.

Ability to:
Make mathematical calculations.
Listen, communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of people.
Proficiently operate a personal computer to complete timesheet, word processing and e-mail operations.
Comprehend and make inferences from written material and written and verbal instructions.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and completed work orders.
Interpret assignments from blueprints, sketches and material takeoffs.
Calibrate fertilizer and herbicide application.
Install and remove sod.
Prepare quality reports outlining work performed, materials used and project costs.
Prepare and monitor a maintenance budget.
Prioritize activities and issues.
Establish effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, contractors, outside groups and organizations and the general public.
Follow established Policies and Procedures.
Complete OSHA/Safety training as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
Supervises the maintenance operations of sports field complexes.
Plans, observes and directs a variety of ground maintenance activities.
Establishes weekly and quarterly maintenance schedules/ calendars and prepares maintenance budget.
Monitors maintenance budget and orders supplies.
Operates and maintains heavy equipment: front end loader, backhoe, dump truck, boom truck, power sprayer, trencher, tractor, turf sweeper, reel mower, verticutter and sod cutter.
Establishes sports field dimension diagrams and field layouts.
Programs irrigation system and adhere to established water allocation and sets flow rates. Works closely with the Irrigation Control Technician.

Lift and carry materials weighing over 90 pounds.
Sit for extended periods of time while driving a City vehicle or equipment maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area.
