General Job / Performance Information
Education and Experience
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with some college preferred. Must have experiences in a business office atmosphere and experience in meeting people and working with them under adverse conditions. Prior experience or working knowledge of medical terminology is strongly desired.
Environmental / Working Conditions
Works in a well-lighted and ventilated building. Exposure to blood pathogens is of low risks. Works in an area where sterilization and hazardous chemicals of endoscopy equipment are used.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Must communicate appropriately and effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and fellow employees. Must communicate will with ancillary departments and sales representatives.
Job Description
The office assistant will assist the office manager with the admitting process. Responsibilities include securing pertinent information for patient registration, insurance verification, and collection of required deposits. Also assists the office manager with duties as designated by the Nurse Director.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
None.
Physical Capabilities
Work requires occasional exerts up to 10 lbs. of force and frequent exerts of small amounts of force to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects. Work involves sitting most of the time while working on computers. May involve walking and/or pushing patients for transport purposes in the Endoscopy Center or to the prep area.
Skills and Abilities
Typing 40-60 words per minute required. Prefer Windows, Excel, lotus and data entry. Must have knowledge of public relations, hospital organization and social services capabilities. Must be capable of learning rapidly and adjust to change. Must be mature and have a sincere and dedicated attitude. Must be able to maintain an even temperament while working under pressure or with heavy workloads. Must be able to deal with angry people and yet remain calm and exercise tact at all times.
