The Aerospace Corporation’s Cyber Assessments and Research Department (CARD) is looking for a qualified candidate to grow its technical capabilities of cyber engineering and defense. As a staff member, you will use your skills to aid Aerospace’s federal and civil customers in identifying and addressing methods to improve their cyber posture. Engineers able to understand a variety of problems in the cyber domain and enjoy adapting technical concepts to new environments are encouraged to apply.
This job role is available for Aerospace’s Greenbelt, MD location.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners involved in cyber planning or related areas
Monitor and evaluate integrated Aerospace cyber operations to identify opportunities to translate capabilities to new customers
Support threat modeling efforts via a structured approach
Design and integrate cyber defense capabilities for mission critical systems
Evaluate computer network defense solutions to determine the adequacy of security design and architecture proposals
Support new business acquisition through customer engagement, internal technical collaboration, and drafting of contract proposal
Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Skill to anticipate key target or threat activities which are likely to prompt a leadership decision
Skill to analyze and assess internal and external partner cyber operations capabilities and tools
Ability to identify and implement defense-in-depth practices to critical infrastructure systems designed without security considerations
Ability to communicate complex information, concepts, or ideas in a confident and well-organized manner through verbal, written, and/or visual means
This position can be filled as a Cyber Engineer or Sr. Cyber Engineer
Required Qualifications for Cyber Engineer
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, or related field
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Fully proficient in one or more programming languages: C, C++, Java, Python
5+ years of experience with an undergraduate degree, or 3+ with a graduate degree
Knowledge of and ability to configure systems securely to specified baselines (e.g.- DISA STIGs, CIS Best Practices, etc.)
Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies
Knowledge of capabilities and applications of network equipment including routers, switches, bridges, servers, transmission media, and related hardware
Knowledge of cyber attack stages (e.g., reconnaissance, scanning, enumeration, gaining access, escalation of privileges, maintaining access, network exploitation, covering tracks)
Required Qualifications for Sr. Cyber Engineer
All qualifications above for Cyber Engineer
8+ years of professional experience with an undergraduate degree, or 5+ with a graduate degree
Understanding of NIST Special Publications relating to the Risk Management Framework, Cyber Security Framework, and Security Controls
Strong understanding of network protocols such as TCP, UDP, SSH, DHCP, NFS, DNS, HTTP/s
Knowledge of computer networking security technologies including firewalls, centralized log collection and analysis, intrusion detection/prevention systems, endpoint security solutions, and security information and event management (SIEM) frameworks
Active Security Clearance (Secret, TS//SCI)
Certifications such as GIAC GSEC/GCIH, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), AWS Certifications (Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect, Security) CompTIA Security+, CISSP
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and techniques for automating security testing and evaluation
Experience with developing applications using Agile or DevSecOps development methods
