The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for a Senior Platform Consultant to join the Infrastructure Practice team. In this role, you will work to gain an understanding of customer infrastructure and business needs and make recommendations matching the unique situations of our customers. You'll need to have an expert-level technical and communication skills focused on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), virtualization (KVM), automation and configuration management, and cloud technologies and a record of successfully applying these technologies to solve business problems. This is a remote-based position; successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
Primary job responsibilities
Deliver successful discovery, analysis, and design workshops for small to medium teams of both technical and non-technical backgrounds that shape customer use cases and architecture design decisions
Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to our customers, explaining technical, developmental, and strategic information technology (IT) requirements
Identify problems and then design, implement, test, and document a fitting solution on Linux-based platforms
Collaborate with Red Hat's product business, product engineering, consulting, support, and sales teams to ensure excellent customer experience with Red Hat's offerings
Scope delivery projects and guide customers through successful pilot and production deployments
Contribute to the development of repeatable methodologies, solutions, and tools designed to scale Red Hat's services capabilities, promote repeatable customer engagements, and lower delivery risk
Demonstrate vision and expertise in open source community by producing whitepapers, webinars, etc. and by speaking at industry-leading conferences
Travel weekly, Monday to Thursday for 30-40 weeks out of the year
Background in architecture design and practical experience implementing complex customer systems solutions in a rapidly evolving technology domain
10+ years of experience designing and configuring Linux operating systems and specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), virtualization (KVM), and cloud technologies
7+ years of experience with systems engineering and advanced administration; experience using enterprise hardware and software supporting multiple-tier applications
Experience with automation and orchestration tools on Red Hat Ansible Automation and host provisioning and management tools like Red Hat Satellite
Practical experience with bash, Python, and Perl scripting
Expert-level understanding of Linux services including BIND, DHCP, FTP, HTTP, email services, identity management (IdM), and SSO technologies
Expert-level skills in the creation and implementation of Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) policies, firewalld, LDAP, NSS, PAM, and Kerberos
Expert-level understanding of Linux-based storage technologies like the Network File System (NFS), Logical Volume Manager (LVM), iSCSI, Virtual Data Optimizer (VDO) compression and deduplication, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and Fibre Channel SAN-Based arrays, and Linux Unified Key Setup (LUKS)
Expertise with TCP network architecture and NetworkManager, including nmcli
Proficiency with performance analysis and tuning, including Kernel tuning, TCP stack, and filesystem
Experience with kickstart files and PXE and iPXE environments
Familiarity with the next generation container tools like Buildah, Podman, Skopeo, and Kubernetes
Effective troubleshooting skills
Solutions sales mentality in an environment with multiple offerings and services
Proven ability to work seamlessly with distributed cross-functional teams to achieve success on behalf of customers
Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification with systems administrator and engineering experience
