The Challenge

The Production Supervisor is responsible for producing high quality DSM Dyneema products in the most cost-effective manner and according to the production plan, while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards. The Production supervisor direct the daily activities within production as well as interface with the support staff to ensure production and quality goals are achieved. Provides technical and administrative managerial leadership to the manufacturing operations. Maintaining License to Operate, such as SHE, is a significant part of this position.

Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Maintain or enhance SHE programs and related documentation. Take action to correct issues related to SHE-topics.

Provide leadership and development to the DSM Dyneema Mesa production organization. Manage performance of Leads and Production Technicians.

Supervise and enforce the training, execution, and assessment of Training Plan in TS. Initiate, drive, coordinate updates of the training plan.

Facilitate teamwork within the production group. Provide necessary resources for the team to fulfill objectives. Encourage team members to understand corporate and departmental goals/objectives and needs. Provide supervisory communication and/or direction to the production employees. Disseminate needed divisional, unit and corporate information to employees on a timely basis. Establish and maintain an open line of communication with all employees.

Manage the administrative aspects of the group by ensuring the preparation of performance plans, job descriptions, and conducting employee performance reviews. This includes hiring, rewarding and disciplining staff as required, providing an environment that fosters teamwork and assigning responsibility and accountability at proper levels. Follow up on action assigned to the team, development- and target plans.

Assist the Site Director in establishing operational goals to support divisional, unit, and corporate objectives. Incorporate short-term goals in immediate subordinates’ annual performance plans. Initiate and implement plans to reduce COGS by continuously improving efficiencies, processing times, reducing labor and material costs, reducing maintenance costs and controlling expense budgets.

Lead, plan, manage, and coordinate activities necessary to provide products that meet quality specifications and are produced at optimum production cost. Evaluate production efficiencies, variances, and procedures on a continuous basis for process improvement with support of best practices like: OEE, OPN, AU, 5S, Lean Management, Visual Management, etc.)

Maintain adequate manufacturing and support facilities to produce the highest quality product in a cost-effective manner. Work with Engineering to assess manufacturing capacity and the need to upgrade facilities to meet regulatory requirements and process improvements.

Initiate, review and approve Mesa work instructions, recipes, and procedures.

Maintain compliance with environmental programs. Promote waste reduction and recovery projects and incorporate associated operations in applicable manufacturing processes. Ensure staff is trained on current waste disposal procedures and prevention procedures. Identify opportunities to minimize waste and to recycle.

Ensure proper storage and disposal of liquid and solid hazardous wastes in production area.

Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.

Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions. Responsible for Quality to Spec production.

Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.

Performs other duties as assigned.

The Ideal

BS/BA in related technical field with 2 years of relevant experience; OR Associate’s degree in related technical field with 3 years of relevant experience OR 6 years of production supervisor related experience.
Minimum 3 year of supervisory or lead experience required in different teams/businesses.
Ability to effectively manage team performance and to identify developmental opportunities for team members.
Firm understanding of production planning and scheduling activities.
Knowledge of environmental regulations related production activities.
Ability to drive improvements in production lead times, minimize rejected material/waste levels, recipe- and equipment improvements to increase capacity.
Ability to effectively manage team performance and to identify developmental opportunities for team members.
Excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
Technical and operational knowledge, ability to handle multiple ongoing activities, and prioritize tasks. Interaction with multidisciplinary and divers teams to ensure expectations are met. The work-environment is not up to DSM standards yet and fast growing in number of FTE’s and combining innovation with commercial production.
