Join a Top 10 global design firm in our Chicago Buildings practice and global workplace sector. Our Chicago team stands as a leader in our practice for design and includes studios spanning Workplace, Healthcare, Higher Ed, Hospitality, Civic/DOD, Retail, and Mixed-Use.
We are seeking a Leader to serve as a Principal and Workplace Market Leader. The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in the Chicago workplace market and will possess knowledge and communication skills to grow our workplace design business. The position requires the ability to develop and nurture existing Stantec client relationships as well as acquire new client relationships. This role is primarily responsible for business development and professional service delivery, and will have project responsibilities including client management, project leadership, and technical guidance. In addition to the external development, we are looking for a leader to inspire our team, represent design, and reinforce the national brand of Stantec.
This individual will report to Business Center’s Sector Leader and will work closely with the Global Workplace Sector Leader, as well as local and regional Buildings leadership to implement a full strategic plan around the workplace studio in Chicago.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Workplace Design Team Management (10-20% Time Commitment)
Develop strategies for growth of the Chicago Workplace business.
Lead and manage the Chicago Workplace team.
Collaborate with Chicago leadership in pursuing Workplace opportunities and avoid potential client relationship conflicts.
Encourage cooperation, sharing of skills and workload between Workplace staff located in various business centers across the company and in other practice areas, where considered appropriate.
Project Responsibilities (30% Time Commitment)
Serve as a seller-doer and be an essential part of a project team working on all phases of a design project from Programming and Schematic Design through Construction Administration.
Interface and advise client, manage staff and assist with the review of technical documents to meet the needs of the project.
Enhance Stantec’s ability to win work during all aspects of a project’s lifecycle from planning, programming, design, construction documentation, contract administration through to project close-out.
Business Development (50-60% Time Commitment)
Leading in the identifying, winning and hands-on involvement by providing senior leadership for Workplace pursuits.
Increase Stantec’s industry profile through regular interaction with potential clients and industry associates as well as participating in industry organizations.
Develop and/or assist in defining overall team project pursuit plan win strategy including strategic proposal development for the group and coordinating a core group of interior design and architecture professionals to achieve business development and financial goals.
Work collaboratively with Marketing to secure new clients and new work, including the preparation of proposals, interviews, and presentations.
Support the Global Workplace Sector Leader in overall growth of the Stantec's Workplace Sector.
Acts as an internal and external ambassador for the firm.
Work closely with regional Buildings leadership and Workplace Sector leadership to develop an annual business plan and strategies to position for growth in the Chicago Workplace market.
Identify and following through on key hires, major project and cross-regional pursuits including possible national client accounts.
Identify and develop existing and future leadership candidates and career development opportunities for staff within the Workplace Business Line.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
Strong business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a diverse client base.
Strong seller-doer capable of generating work and creating long-term relationships and delivering long-term value to clients for Stantec.
An entrepreneurial orientation with strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting services provider
Experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, Expression of Interests, and Statement of Qualifications.
Strong understanding of the Chicago workplace market, industry trends and industry leaders.
Demonstrated technical skills on major projects.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and team building skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Active in your community including conference attendance/speaking engagements and/or active memberships in associations (such as board posts and committee memberships).
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design or related field.
Professional registration as an Architect or Interior Designer.
15 years of experience in business development in the commercial workplace sector.
Experience managing a studio or team of professionals.
Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required
