TITLE: Director of Engineering

REPORT TO: VP of Engineering

FLSA GROUP: Salary - Exempt

WORKING HOURS: Primarily days, occasional evening or weekend. This position will work from a home office in a virtual setting most of the week.

LOCATION: Belmont, MI. We will also consider the following locations to work out of Tampa,FL or Royal Oak, MI.

TRAVEL: Must be able to travel anywhere in the United States typically not more than one week per month.

SALARY: $95K - $110k

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Engineering serves as the leader of his/her Service Teams. Service Teams are typically assigned to a region of a state or states. The Director of Engineering is responsible for reviewing service team performance, client satisfaction, and communicating policies, purposes and goals of the firm to their departments service teams.

This person leads the people on their teams through regular (daily, weekly) communication to ensure personnel under their direction are productive, motivated, and inspired to achieve success independently and collectively. These leadership and communication skills must be applicable to managing multiple teams that may be working concurrently in different locations.

In addition to leadership, the Director of Engineering must be proficient with skills directly associated with the work their personnel are performing including proficiency in building systems engineering, design review, building codes, Building Automation System software, building energy performance, life cycle costing, and masterplanning. These skills are maintained through ongoing training of personnel and clients, coupled with continuing education.

The Director of Engineering must also carry out job functions related to client relationship management. This includes getting team performance feedback, identifying opportunities for the firm to continue to serve the client, communicating all the applicable services that the firm provides, supporting the Sales Team in responding to a request for proposal, and follow-up with clients.

Finally, the Director of Engineering will be involved in regular collaboration with the Principals, Partners, and VP’s to solve issues, set goals, and advise in the areas of corporate brand, finance, sales, marketing, human resource, and client experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum;

  • Licensed Professional Engineer;
  • 10 years’ experience in Mechanical and Electrical Systems Engineering, including construction drawings & specification review, equipment submittal review, and construction installation & startup inspections, performance testing, and BMS systems (points lists, sequence of operations, networks, control protocols);
  • Experience leading architect client relationships;
  • Experience leading building design project teams;
  • Proficient in the application of mechanical and plumbing building codes, NFPA 70, 99, 101, Facility Guidelines Institute (http://www.fgiguidelines.org/), and healthcare codes;
  • Experience in Autodesk Revit (Building Information Modeling) Software;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Excel;
  • Proficient in Energy Modeling Software (Trace Load 700 & DOE2).

OR

  • Proficient in Arc Flash Modeling Software (SKM);
  • Proficient with browser-based software applications for team collaboration and management of email, calendar, tasks/objectives, and project, along with virtual (video) conference meetings;
  • In depth, technical understanding of Chilled Water Plants, Heating Plants, Hydronic Distribution Systems, Air Distribution Systems, and Building Management/Automation Systems (BMS)
  • OR

In depth, technical understanding of Electrical Power Distribution Systems; and Lighting Systems and Fire Alarm Systems, including proficiency in authoring Electrical Power, Lighting, and Fire Alarm system assessment reports;

  • Strong technical understanding of information technology networks;
  • Familiar with Renewable Energy Systems;
  • Familiar with Energy Conservation and Optimization Industry Standard Principals.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Design Critical Environments, such as Data Centers, Hospitals, Cleanrooms.
  • Strong technical understanding of information technology networks.
  • Commissioning Professional Certification
  • Proficient in the Commissioning Process per FGI, http://www.fgiguidelines.org
  • Proficient in the Commissioning Process ASHRAE Guidelines 0, 1, & 2.

Other considerations:

  • Proficient in Navisworks
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems);
  • Experience with IT networking design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Experience commissioning Critical Environments, such as Data Centers, Hospitals, Cleanrooms.
  • Experience in LEAN and/or Process Improvement, including certification in Six Sigma
  • Experience with Green Building Guidelines, such as LEED, Green Globes, International Well Building Institute.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs.
