NURSE PRACTITIONER

General Summary of Position:
Assumes total clinical management of specific patients in collaboration with the physician. Follows established standards, procedures and practices and gives specific patient management directions to nursing and other staff. Incumbents in this position may be required to perform all or a significant combination of duties depending on their specialty area.

Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing plus completion of an ANA accredited Nurse Practitioner Program is required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:
Licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the District of Columbia and Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nursing Association are required.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

General Summary of Position:
Evaluates patient's physical condition by using the patient's medical history, medical records, conducting physical examinations, and evaluating laboratory and radiographic data for the purpose of determining a diagnosis and plan of patient care.

Education:
Bachelor's degree from an American Medical Association approved Physician Assistant program is required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:
Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) are required. Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support is preferred. Licensure as a Physician Assistant in the District of Columbia is required.
