How will you make an impact?

The Senior Manager, Continuous Improvement is responsible for coaching, implementation and support of the Practical Process Improvement Business System Program within all functions; both Operations and SG&A at the Lenexa, KS site.

This entails direct application of lean, project management and other operational excellence concepts across the operation including manufacturing, engineering, logistics, customer service, quality and finance to drive continuous improvement, productivity and right first time.

The successful applicant will be a full and active member of the Site Leadership team, work closely with all functions on site to identify, assess, and analyze opportunities for continuous improvement, and then support and drive continuous improvement plans through to execution.

What will you do?

Key objectives of the position are to provide a successful Practical Process Improvement Business System program via:
Coaching and mentoring of the Practical Process Improvement Business System philosophies and tools to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity improvement targets
Development of Current and Future State value stream maps that provide business teams with a roadmap for driving safety, quality, delivery, and cost productivity improvements.
Promote a learning organization that embraces continuous improvement and leverages the talent of the organization to achieve its business objectives.
Identifying best practices and appropriate industry benchmarks against the current Operation.
This individual will be responsible for management of a structured Continuous Improvement program, including coaching and mentoring of the tools and concepts at all levels of the organization. This individual will also lead key business improvement projects and be the ambassador for Practical Process Improvement at the Lenexa site.
Embed the Practical Process Improvement Business System across all levels and functions to develop a culture of continuous improvement.
Can leverage the Practical Process Improvement to align continuous improvement activities with strategic objectives.
The successful candidate will drive organizational change.
Utilise existing KPIs to provide trend analysis
Partner with Site leadership teams in defining the overall strategies necessary to improve site customer, operational and financial performance and achieve its goals in support of the divisional PPI vision as well as accelerate the cultural changes necessary to support the PPI-Business System program.
Lead and facilitate continuous improvement opportunities in support of Site and Operational strategic goals; including providing lean training to departments and teams and leading kaizen events.
Challenge functional leaders as necessary to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve their KPI’s, including growth, productivity, asset utilization, inventory, and customer allegiance
Collaborating effectively across the Divisional and Corporate PPI community to share learning’s and bring best practice to the Operations.

Key responsibilities of the position are to:
Lead utilization of the Practical Process Improvement Business System across the Operation and the sites.
Utilise the Practical Process Improvement business system to drive a culture of Continuous Improvement.
Identify areas for improvement using ‘fact based’ data
Apply Project Management tools and practices to effectively prioritize and execute key business projects.
Deliver training in the PPI Business System and Project Management. Capture and record training and project improvements. Align projects to support business needs and targets maintaining the Funnel.
Manage/ lead and facilitate continuous improvement projects and Kaizen events.
Support development of process managers and kaizen leaders within the business functional areas to support on-going process improvement.
Act as a change agent and constantly challenge the status quo.
Develop, qualify, and coordinate activity of Lean Coaches and Process Managers.
Share/learn best practices from other parts of the Thermo Fisher Scientific business. Benchmark Lenexa’s performance against industry best practice and drive best practice adoption across the operation.
Communicate and provide required reports and information to corporate Practical Process Improvement Business System Leadership.
Introduce and maintain the Gemba process
Participate fully in the Leadership team including the setting and execution of the Operational Strategy the sites.
Increase Employee engagement and drive the investment in people through development and Reward and Recognition.

How will you get here?

Education
BS or BA - Degree in Business, Engineering, or Scientific related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
Lean six sigma lack belt or similar experience
Experience
Operational experience focused on lean implementations, with experience in areas such as; daily management, 5S, value stream mapping, material flow, Gemba and Kaizens.
Proven record of facilitation and training teams with measurable outcomes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated technical skills, expertise and track record in lean tools and concepts, with emphasis on implementation.
Has experience in driving organizational change.
Has a track record in creating a culture of continuous improvement that delivers results.
Project Management training and application.
Solid foundation in Root Cause Problem Solving, Process Flow / Value stream Mapping and Standard Work application.
Ability to lead, motivate and inspire teams to achieve successful results through Continuous Improvement activities
Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to interface & influence effectively at all levels of the organization and work comfortably in a matrix environment.
Self-motivated with strong coaching and mentoring skills. Innovative, dynamic, multi-tasking.
Effective, articulate and concise communication - written, verbal and presentation skills. Preference for lean experience from company with a formal lean business system.
Ability to travel up to 10%
