The Controller is a key member of the Universal Studios Hollywood Finance Leadership team reporting to the SVP and CFO, Universal Studios Hollywood. This role is a strategic partner across all theme park operations (e.g. Ticketing, Food & Beverage, Retail, Engineering, Staffing, etc.) and is responsible for accurate, GAAP compliant reporting of Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Park and CityWalk financial statements.
Manage six direct reports and a combined staff of over forty employees
Support CFO in various tactical & strategic initiatives
Lead development of internal policies and procedures as well as compliance with local statutory and US GAAP policies
Supervise the day-to-day General Ledger operations, hierarchy maintenance, cash management, fixed assets, accounts receivable/payable, and payment programs
Lead monthly closing process, coordinating all data requests and disclosures (e.g. Rev Rec, Account Recs, Timetables, Tax, corporate submissions, etc.)
Partner with Universal Parks & Resorts Finance & Accounting group, NBCUniversal Corporate Controllership, and other NBCUniversal controllership divisions
Oversee external and internal auditors assisting with mid-year, year-end, Sarbanes Oxley, and all other periodic internal audits
Provide leadership and expertise to other Finance units and operating departments on accounting processes and controls, system implementation, cash flow, fixed assets, purchasing cards/systems, and general ledger data consistency/integrity
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in Finance or Accounting
- Solid GAAP and financial reporting technical skills
- Proven ability to prioritize and adapt in a deadline driven environment
- 10+ years relevant senior financial management and accounting experience
- Track record of building and sustaining relationships with internal and external parties
- Proven leader with the ability to manage and motivate a team
- Exceptional communication and organizational planning skills
- Process and system awareness, including the ability to identify and mitigate risks
- Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
- CPA or Public Practice experience considered a plus
