Beat the Streets Chicago is a nonprofit sports-based youth development organization that began in 1994 with the mission of empowering Chicago youth through wrestling and mentoring. Since early 2018, the organization has undergone a renaissance with revitalized leadership, a new strategic plan, incredible growth and the addition of enrichment programming to its core services. We believe that interest-based out of school activities lead to positive outcomes and systemic change. Wrestling, because of the unique nature of the sport and its culture, has the power to impact both physical wellness and social emotional learning. By augmenting our wrestling programs with enrichment and positive role models, we prepare our participants for post secondary success both mentally, emotionally and physically in ways not currently provided in the current systems. Our VISTA will build organizational capacity in our communications efforts, specifically helping to build an annual communications strategy that combines the disparate but connected needs of our top-level organization / brand, fundraising and programming areas. In particular, we will need careful consideration of how virtual program delivery, often conducted through the same channels as “normal” communications can break through the noise without overwhelming our capacity or turning off non-participant stakeholders also receiving information through those same channels. The ideal candidate should be a detail-oriented strategic thinker, with experience working with digital images, basic design software and social media. Oral, written and video communication aptitude is critical. Wrestling experience is helpful but not required. A can-do spirit, passion for youth development and positive attitude all ARE required!
