Body MRI Fellow:
The Department of Radiology, Emory University School of Medicine offers a one-year clinical fellowship in Body MR Imaging. The Body MRI Program at Emory University is amongst the most clinically active in the country, with state-of-the-art facilities. The fellowship aims to combine excellent clinical training in a variety of abdominopelvic processes with the necessary technical training related to image acquisition and protocol optimization. Dynamically oriented and tailored to an individual applicant's interests and career aspirations, protected time for research can be requested to allow interested fellows to become further involved with innovative, translational research and education in Body MRI. Alternatively, time spent on other Abdominal rotations is also an option (CT, US, fluoroscopy, nonvascular interventional procedures).
The Body MRI Fellowship is under the direction of the Abdominal Imaging Director, Dr. Deborah Baumgarten MD, MPH, FACR, Professor of Radiology and Imaging Sciences as well as the Associate Director of the Abdominal Imaging Fellowship, Dr. Peter Harri and the Director of Abdominal MRI, Dr. Kelly Cox. Body MRI faculty place a strong emphasis on the educational mission. There is also a cadre of physicists, research scientists and engineers that are part of the Body MRI team, serving as valuable resources for the MRI Fellow in the missions of clinical service, education and research.
The Department of Radiology at Emory University has numerous current-generation MRI scanners, running on multiple platforms (Siemens and GE) with latest generation software. Master research agreements in place with manufacturers have made Emory a testing ground for pre-clinical development and translational research. The Body MRI Program currently performs more than 16000 clinical body MRI cases per year. There is a large, diverse patient population at Emory University, which is a tertiary referral center for much of the Southeast. There is a well-established transplant center (liver, kidney, pancreas and bone marrow) for which MRI has become the principal foundation for diagnostic work-up both pre and postoperatively. Emory University Hospital is a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center, and there is extensive collaboration with medical, surgical and oncologic teams. There are several weekly multidisciplinary conferences in which MRI is central pillar for supporting optimized patient care planning, including conferences centered on the liver and biliary system.
MD or DO degree. Currently enrolled in a US or Canadian Radiology Residency Program and in good standing or having completed a residency Program and Certified by the American Board of Radiology.
