The head of Employee, Executive and Digital Communications sets the agenda for, and leads, the integrated execution of a global internal communications strategy, including internal executive communications. S/he also manages all digital communications governance and strategic operations. This role, and the team it leads, is a strategic partner to the business in three areas:

First, in developing enterprise internal communications plans that are additive and adaptable to unique business needs and strategies all over the world.

Second, this leader oversees digital strategies, governance as it relates to brand-owned properties, measurement, and digital SME resources. The team runs and maintains corporate-owned channels and delivers expertise and guidance for websites and digital tools (existing and emerging), as needed, across the world.

Third, working with oversight from the Corporate Communications Director, this position manages the COO’s communication agenda, inclusive of employee events and communications, as well as external speaking engagements

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

For Leadership of Internal / Employee Communications:
Foster employee engagement and promote a strong, healthy corporate culture

Develop strategies for effective enterprise-wide employee communications, including the development of KPIs, measurement approaches and reporting

Partner closely with HR to provide needed support levels for org announcements and employee communication requirements (including coordination on enterprise-wide survey/Pulse initiatives)

Close partnership with regional and reputation and media teams for unified approach to messaging and ‘inside-out’ content

Identify, design and lead the development of technological platforms that serve overarching employee communication goals as necessary (e.g., intranet, employee mobile application, etc.)

Extend support and leverage through leadership toolkits

Leads enterprise-wide community for employee communications to leverage and align as appropriate on content and channels; gather insights from employee engagement for continuous improvement

For Leadership of Digital Channel Governance:
Craft overall strategy for corporate digital communications (including digital and social media channels)
Develop strategic partnership with IT and HR partners, as well as BU Communicators, and guide team to ensure a coordinated strategy for digital communications—both internal and external, including platforms, channels, and analytics

Oversee development of governance strategies and documents, including company-wide social media use policies, and partner with other functions as needed to drive adoption (e.g., HR, IT)

Responsible for representing digital excellence within the team and across the organization to help drive best practice and adoption

Work actively with other digital leaders to manage third-party vendors

Design, develop and execute the enterprise’s strategy for digital analytics and measurement, as well as how these findings are made available to key decision makers across the organization

Proactively identify emerging trends and tools that the function can own over competitors and position itself as a leader in the industry

Oversee all internal digital training initiatives across the organization

Work actively with marketing counterparts to ensure alignment (both in strategy and resourcing) across content management systems, relationship management tools and enterprise-level conversation monitoring; including advertising efforts across brand channels

For Leadership of Executive Communications:
Provide support to select key corporate executives for internal and external engagements: appearances; town halls; etc.

Lead CEO strategy for internal communications; understand executive voice and share expertise as SME for function

Act as trusted advisor to and provide training and coaching for COO and CTO in close partnership with Media Relations CoE

Ensure executives are well prepared with speeches, talking points and Q&A for COO/CTO events

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to: Corporate Communications Leader
  • Direct reports: Five direct reports. These include two Employee/Leader Communications positions, a Channel Operations position and two roles for digital communications and marketing channels: Digital Tools and Governance, Digital Platforms and Analytics.
  • Other key relationships: Corporate leadership team, particularly CHRO and CIO; Operating business leaders. Peers and colleagues on the corporate communication team. Communications leaders in operating business units. Industry peers and colleagues. External vendors and internal agencies. Corporate Communications leadership team
Job Qualifications
Minimum 15 years professional experience in communications and public affairs and communications in a large (Fortune 500) global corporation
Demonstrated ability to be a progressive and innovative leader who has proven track record developing and leading successful internal communications programs with measurable results.
Experience in rapid-change environments, and with change management communications.
Successful experience working closely and providing executive level counsel with executives to develop and execute communications strategy, preferably for internal audiences.
Knowledge of and interest in digital channels best practices and industry trends. This should extend beyond use for internal communications programs (but include social and mobile platforms).
Preference for designing and employing measurement to help set and evaluate strategy.
Experienced in operating within a regulated industry and experience with government compliance regulations and communications issues.
Operates as a strong Business Driver, Trusted Advisor and Strategic Communicator and is clearly grounded in best practices and trends in the field.
Results oriented and resourceful individual who is capable of quickly taking control of responsibilities and establishing him/herself as a credible strategic business partner; a team player with excellent planning and organizational skills.
Strong organizational and project management skills with a focus on planning and delivering results under tight time constraints.
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, and excellent speech-writing competency.
A bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing or communications is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly desirable.
