PerkinElmer is optimizing its Enterprise IT software delivery engine while transforming its business model. PerkinElmer is seeking an experienced, forward thinking and well-rounded Enterprise IT Software Delivery Director. The new Enterprise IT Software Delivery Director will be joining PerkinElmer Enterprise IT as we move to optimize our software delivery engine and transition agile development approaches (i.e. scrum, Kanban). The successful applicant will partner with the rest of the IT leadership team in the transition, aligning software delivery with portfolio management, business relationship management, and other processes essential to making scrum-based agile development an enabler of value delivery to the enterprise.
As the Enterprise IT organization moves toward agile-based delivery methods, the Enterprise IT Software Delivery Director will be responsible for providing oversight and enablement of team-based delivery of Enterprise IT’s software application projects, enhancements, and ongoing application support. This role will be responsible for enabling teams to successfully deliver, including resource planning, talent management, establishing coding standards and processes, removing team impediments, defining team performance metrics, and partnering with outside providers. He or she will ensure the development teams are able to meet the long-term vision (planning to leverage emerging technologies), as well as short term (resource and team performance management to delivery and support new and existing business capabilities).
This role will play a critical part of the executive management of IT under the CIO – including management of his or her departmental budget and frequent engagement with stakeholders throughout the Enterprise IT organization. He or she will focus on building and supporting high-performing teams, and measure his or her function against continuous improvement metrics. The Enterprise IT Software Delivery Director will also bring experience working with multiple platforms and technologies and have both a vision for and experience with working with Enterprise Architecture to optimize the software technology stack, balancing customization with platform complexity and total cost of ownership.
Role and Responsibilities
Plan, establish and maintain an Enterprise IT Software Delivery function at PerkinElmer.
Working directly with business relationship leaders in IT, enable software delivery to serve the needs of each of the business units while optimizing the performance of the software delivery team for PerkinElmer as-a-whole, including new capability development and application support.
Manage and cultivate software development talent in the organization, overseeing a broad set of software delivery roles, including software engineers / developers, business analysts, solution and technical architects, integration SMEs.
Coach, motivate and mentor members of the software delivery team to enable high performance.
Integrate external service providers into the delivery model to provide flexible scale.
Provide executive leadership to remove software delivery impediments.
Collaborate with the Project Portfolio Management office to define standard processes and KPIs
Drive the adoption and rollout of standard processes and methodologies throughout the development teams and establish focus on continuous improvement
Define and maintain standards and frameworks for programming, application development, and knowledge sharing across multiple platforms.
Own the budget for the software delivery function and focus on optimizing spending to deliver for the organization.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Practical knowledge of enterprise systems and technologies (ERP, CRM, Sales tools, eCommerce) both on premise and in the cloud.
Skilled at hiring, developing, motivating, coaching, and mentoring members of a software delivery team.
Familiarity with software development best practices and demonstrated success establishing frameworks and standard practices within a delivery organization.
Experience leading globally distributed teams
Experience successfully leading teams through change.
Strong working knowledge and practical experience with agile delivery methodology, specifically scrum and Kanban.
Clear ability to collaborate and influence with senior IT leaders.
Strong facilitation, influencing, and emotional maturity.
Understanding of IT financials and experience managing IT budgets.
Experience partnering with vendors and service providers to create flexible staffing models
Familiarity with infrastructure related to enterprise systems and ability to collaborate with IT leaders to help shape infrastructure needs
Demonstrable knowledge, understanding, and capabilities through previous work in:
Enterprise application development and support (e.g. SAP, SFDC, Oracle eCommerce)
IT resource and talent management
Agile delivery methodology
IT financial management
A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated success leading and managing software development teams in a global IT organization.
A minimum of 3 years establishing and implementing a software development teams in an agile development environment.
Experience successfully leading change, such as transitioning the software development organization to an agile from a waterfall methodology, or equivalent.
Experience in providing development support for incident management and problem management in a large IT organization.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Leading a global team with distributed team members across multiple continents and time zones.
Software delivery management experience for:
Specific applications: SAP, SFDC, Oracle eCommerce
Systems integration projects resulting from mergers and acquisitions
A Life Sciences company or related business context.
