DESCRIPTION

This position will be responsible for programming recreation, education, social, and cultural activities for senior adults (50+). This position will be assigned to the Pyle Adult Recreation Center, but will provide assistance at other Senior Centers as well.

Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Assist with facility reservation, planning and executing of special events;
Assist with the implementation and ongoing management of the payroll system;
Assist with initiating and developing partnerships to enhance services;
Assist with the supervision and scheduling of part-time temporary staff;
Coordinate and execute large events for seniors; plan event details, purchase supplies, assist in setup and breakdown for programming and prepare breakfast and lunch meals for up to 90 people;
Coordinate and work closely with senior volunteers;
Provide customer service functions at the reception desk including but not limited to processing registration, facility reservations, Town Lake boat permits, point of sale transactions, answering questions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Requires the equivalent to the completion of an Associate’s of Art degree in recreation administration, elementary education or a degree related to the core functions of this position.

The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).

Work Experience:
Requires two years of recreation programming and/or facility management experience.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

Certification, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Possession of, or required to obtain by end of probationary period, an appropriate, valid Food Service Worker’s Card.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of initial probationary period is contingent upon passing an FBI background investigation. Based on position, referred applicants may be subject to additional testing which may include pre-employment polygraph, physical and drug screening.
