IT Business Analyst – Gaithersburg, MD
Our client, a global science-led biopharmaceutical company with innovative medicines used by millions of patients worldwide is looking for an IT Business Analyst, based in Gaithersburg, MD.
4 months contract with possibility of renewal. Candidate must be eligible for direct W2 employment without sponsorship.
The IT Business Analyst will be part of a Business IT team responsible for understanding the business needs and analyzing / validating / documenting business and IT system requirements. The Business Analyst will work independently and/or in close collaboration with the IT Capability Lead and Senior Business Relationship Manager roles in conjunction with business stakeholders to ensure proposed processes and systems respond to the business requirements and align to the overall business & IT strategy. The role assists in designing processes and changes to processes that will be used to implement business transformation solutions. Core activities of the role are:

Structured ways of approaching business and technical analysis including tools and techniques to support problem solving
Sufficient knowledge of a broad range of technologies to inform analysis
Facilitation and interviewing
Ability to prepare and run workshops
Structured and unstructured interviewing skills
Techniques and approaches to harvest and validate information, requirements and constraints from stakeholders
Arbitrating over conflicting stakeholder requirements to reach consensus and deliver maximum business benefit
Helping stakeholders structure requirements in support of good design
Business and technical modelling & communication
Providing a connection between business strategies and technology solutions through structured requirement articulation
Liaise between the IT team and the business to agree on user requirement scope and delivery
Ability to understand and communicate business strategies and determine the complexity of their delivery or the impact on existing technical solutions
Knowledge of industry standard modelling languages e.g. the Unified Modelling Language (UML)
Ability to produce high quality requirements documentation
Document business processes and the associated technical requirements
Usability design skills
Solution and delivery acumen
Ability to assess the quality and fit of new or existing technology components and applications
Ability to estimate the cost or effort to deliver requirements through bespoke implementation or package customisation
Ability to convey complex technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders
Proactive identification and design of solutions that achieve underlying business need and minimise implementation complexity
Define and draft system scope and objectives and translate these business requirements into design specifications
Requirements delivery assurance
Knowledge of the change control process and the ability to analyse change to minimise impact on requirements and implementation
Approaches to assure that specified requirements have been delivered to expected quality
Test execution skills and the ability to compile test results in a manner that supports key business stakeholders in decision making
Ensuring that requirements are appropriately met, tested and implemented
Usability analysis and testing
The Business IT Analyst will collaborate with:
IT Capability Lead and Business Relationship Manager(s) to ensure solutions align to business strategy and priorities
The Enterprise Solution Architect to ensure alignment and integration of solutions to the wider IT strategy and technical solution implemented or being implemented solution development team (internal or external) to effectively transition designs, ensuring clear understanding of requirements and on developing test cases and test scripts to ensure requirements are met
The Solution Delivery and/or the Support Organization, acting as focal point for question resolution
Business Process owners to facilitate implementation, deployment and communication processes.
Bachelor Degree or higher.
Minimum 5 years of IT business analysis experience, ideally well verse with clinical operations.
Must have data analytic experience as well as building databases and dashboard.
Demonstrated business process design, analysis and requirement gathering experience
Experience in interpreting and documenting the business context, relevance, benefits, downstream impacts and criticality to business processes
Experience working in an Agile environment and skills, including creation of user stories and acceptance criteria
Experience in implementing analytics solutions / tools
Ability to create mock-ups and provide suggestions to improve user experience within applications and analytic tools
Develop an understanding of all data across disparate systems and data marts
Perform ad-hoc analysis to provide solutions to business stakeholders
Knowledge of IT project management life cycle activities and deliverables
Experience of supporting a Function in an IT service delivery and management capacity
Good verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated facilitation skills
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Influencing, networking and team working skills
Ability to work well in and across diverse global teams
Experience in life sciences/pharmaceuticals industry is an asset
Experience with, & knowledge of industry standard modelling languages e.g. Business Process Modelling Notation, Unified Modelling Language, Flowchart technique, Business Process modelling Swimlane diagrams, Role Diagrams
Understands the big picture and identifies key deliverables along the way.
Sufficient knowledge of the domain to enable the individual to act independently to work with relevant data sources, systems and tools to solve problems and derive knowledge to enable project progression
Individual is up-to-date with relevant knowledge in domain, has a good understanding of the literature and developments relevant to the area of expertise.
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally (Travel is expected to be less than 10%)
