What You'll Be Doing
The Plumbing Master Mechanic performs repairs, replacement and preventive maintenance duties relating to plumbing, piping, sprinkler systems and waste treatment systems for all Wake County facilities to keep the facilities running as smoothly as possible.
Oversee the operations and maintenance of four waste water treatment plants
Serves as the acting supervisor in the Trade Supervisor's absence
Schedules and assists in performing required testing of fire sprinkler systems
Completes routine and emergency work orders that may include stop ups, frozen pipes, leaky pipes or plumbing fixtures, pump failures, etc
Operates wastewater treatment plants for Wake County as well as performs weekly maintenance and visits to designated facilities
Conducts monthly reports that are required by state law
Tests eyewashes and safety showers as required by OSHA
Performs daily preventive maintenance in all Wake County facilities including high and medium security detention facilities
Assists with oversight of outside contractors that bid and perform related work
Maintains information on all work orders
Fills out time sheets on a weekly basis
Participates on the Physical Plant Safety Committee
Works with the Safety Office to maintain a safe working environment
Performs seasonal winterization and de-winterization of County property

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
High school diploma. Three years of experience in related general or specialized trades. A valid commercial license and a “safe” driving record may be required and/or specialized licenses may be required. Equivalent education and experience combination accepted.
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
NC Plumbing license or the ability to obtain within one year of employment

Knowledge of commercial building domestic hot and cold water distribution systems
Knowledge of commercial wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems
Ability to read blueprintes, work orders and various schematics
Knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations
Ability to work cooperatively with other trades staff

Effective verbal and listening communication skills
