Assistant General Counsel – Coverage Litigation
AIG’s Global Legal, Compliance, Regulatory and Government Affairs (GLCR) department is comprised of attorneys and other professionals providing high-quality advisory and transactional support with integrity and objectivity across all parts of the organization. The team ensures an operating environment that minimizes legal, regulatory and reputational risks and complies with all laws and regulations and AIG policies & procedures.
This is a global, diverse and award-winning team that has been recognized for its leadership and innovative solutions. You will also be eligible to participate in AIG’s award-winning pro bono program.
AIG’s GLCR department is looking for several experienced attorneys to serve as Assistant General Counsels in New York, NY managing insurance coverage litigation.
Separate Assistant General Counsel positions are available in each of three (3) litigation groups:
Property and Specialty
PLEASE INDICATE WHICH LITIGATION GROUP(S) YOU ARE APPLYING TO IN YOUR COVER LETTER AND/OR RESUME.
Manage a litigation docket consisting of coverage litigation matters involving either casualty, financial lines, or property and specialty policies issued to commercial insureds in all fifty states and abroad;
Manage and partner with outside counsel to ensure high-quality written work product is filed on behalf of the AIG member insurance companies;
Make strategic decisions with a focus on consistency and the big picture;
Proactively develop case resolution plans and recommendations;
Evaluate and make smart, sensible recommendations regarding the filing of potential coverage litigation on behalf of the AIG member insurance companies;
Collaborate with our business partners in the claims organization on strategic and financial decisions, and to provide coverage advice in advance of litigation;
Travel within the fifty states or internationally for mediations, trials, and oral arguments; and
Report to an Associate General Counsel, who has close oversight of the matters handled on their team.
The ideal candidate will be an Attorney with at least six (6) years of major law firm experience;
J.D. from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials;
Admitted to practice in at least one state;
Litigation and insurance coverage experience is required; and
In-house experience useful but not required.
