General Statement of Duties
Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, March 4, 2019.

Assists Recreation Coordinators and/or Instructors in carrying out recreation program plans and activities and in supervising children at a recreation center or playground for Summer, 2019; does related work as required.

Essential Duties
To be eligible for this position, you must be a Henrico County resident and a current student in the ninth grade who is being promoted to the tenth grade in September 2019.

This position will work as a team member to assist with planning and implementing activities for participants in the Summer Blast Camp program. Candidates need to possess good leadership skills and good organizational skills.

Additional qualifications and duties include:
Ability to stimulate interest in and appreciation for the various aspects of the activities
Ability to deal effectively with groups and to assist with maintaining discipline and or control
Ensure safety of all participants
Assist staff with program preparation and set-up
Performs related work as assigned
Prefer applicants with knowledge and skills of arts, crafts, nature, movement, music, sports, games and activities. Previous experience with school age children preferred.

Some knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation; ability to follow rules and program planning; ability to meet and to deal tactfully and effectively with program participants and the general public; courtesy.

Staff will work alongside individuals, ensuring that they receive reasonable accommodations and modifications necessary for a positive experience.

Outdoor Camps are for ages 8-16 where safety is first. This is a camp actively out in the elements. Rain or shine we engage in archery, canoeing, climbing, fishing, hiking, swimming and many more fun activities. We provide the opportunity which allows youth to explore nature and offer just the right mix of fun and hands-on experiences.

Preschool Camps offer children, ages 3-5, and experiences in becoming a cooperative part of the class. Staff help children become accustomed to respecting others, being kind and to work as a team, also promoting a sense of community within the classroom. Our emphasis is on play, imagination and nature. Daily activities include seasonal crafts, cooking, developmental movement, circle games, storytelling, puppetry, singing, nature walks, and painting.

Summer Blast (Rising 1st-5th Grade) is a free summer camp that is available to Henrico County residents. Summer Blast is an active, safe, fun and enriching environment for rising 1st-4th grade students over summer break. Types of activities include arts and crafts, cooperative gym games, expressive arts, leisure choice, nature and outdoors, theme activities, wellness and reading.

Summer Blast (Rising 6th-8th Grade) is a free summer program that is available for Henrico County residents. Teen Scene is an active, safe, fun and enriching environment for rising 5th-8th grader students, over summer break. Counselors will facilitate and engage in various activities including sports and games, arts and crafts, team building and cooperative games, expressive arts, literary components, nature and outdoor and science challenges, and special events within an overarching theme.

Therapeutic Recreation camps provide the opportunity for kids of various ages and disabilities to explore social and recreational adventures throughout the summer. Staff will work alongside individuals ensuring that they receive appropriate assistance and reasonable modifications necessary for a positive camp experience.

Performing Arts camps, named Centerstage, are for youth age 6-15 with a focus on theatre, dance and music! Activities include acting, improvisation, dance, music, costuming, makeup, arts & crafts and stage combat. Each camp session ends with a production performed for family and friends on the stage at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

This is a one-time seasonal position that concludes at the end of the program offering.

Candidates must be able to complete an orientation and the entire 8 week program which runs June 17, 2019 through August 8, 2019.
