About the Position:
The Primary purpose of this position is to serve as a patient safety manager with the Quality Support Division of Evans Army Community Hospital on Fort Carson, near Colorado Springs, CO.
Provide Professional Nursing expertise to the patient safety program.
Analyze Nursing processes and procedures to identify and/or recommend changes to improve patient safety procedures.
Design and implement educational objectives to ensure hospital staff are properly trained.
Review patient reports to advise on risk management matters.
Analyze findings from various Nursing and/or patient databases to develop reports for higher level supervisors.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Basic Requirements for Nurse:
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 06XX occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
At least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade GS-09. Professional Nursing Experience is defined as 1) Providing instruction related to nursing duties; 2) Advising on changes to patient care procedures; 3) Using a tracking system to evaluate patient care and 4) Utilizing an automated system to compile patient data.

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
