For the GS07:
At the GS-07 level the incumbent will preform all of the duties in a developmental capacity. Full performance of the position is a GS-12.
Makes arrangements preparatory to obtaining data from enterprises for which the collection of data is expected to be straight forward and uncomplicated and requires the application of conventional methods.
Performs routine analysis of collected information in order to discover and rectify common discrepancies.
Makes follow-up contact to respondents providing data to ensure accurate and timely survey results.
Responds to queries from respondents for BLS information by providing them with the salient publications, assisting in interpretation where appropriate, or referring them to appropriate regional staff.
For the GS09:
At the GS-09 level the incumbent will preform all of the duties in a developmental capacity. Full performance of the position is a GS-12.
Plans, schedules, and conducts data collection assignments using fairly complex economic or statistical techniques which are covered by established methods and procedures.
Using conventional methods, makes arrangements preparatory to obtaining data from enterprises for which the collection of data is expected to present relatively few complexities and for which precedents exist.
While assignments can be limited in scope, they require the knowledge of economic principles and statistical techniques in order to evaluate the data collected and to make adjustment to ensure reliability and comparability.
Evaluates responses for reasonableness and conformance to survey requirements, referring high impact and/or atypical responses to supervisor for guidance.
THIS IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY POSITION AND MAY BE FILLED EITHER AS AN ECONOMIST OR STATISTICIAN (ECONOMICS).
50% or less - Travel may be required for training, conferences, meetings or other mandatory interactions, as scheduled.

Basic Requirements – Economist, applicants must have one of the following:
economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus;
B. Combination of education and experience:
courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Examples of qualifying experience include (a) individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; (b) supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or (c) teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instructions in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
Basic Requirements – Statistician, applicants must have one of the following:
that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
2. Combination of education and experience - courses as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS LISTED ABOVE:
For the GS-07 :
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-05, in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience in, or directly related to economics or one of the specialized fields of economics. This experience must have equipped the candidate with the knowledge and ability to perform fully the work of the positon. Examples of qualifying experience include: Assisted with providing collection expertise and feedback for economic and/or statistical programs. Assisted with the collection of data in support of a wide range of economic and/or statistical surveys in the areas of; price, compensation, working conditions or related special test surveys. Assisted with performing routine analysis of collected information in order to discover and rectify common discrepancies. Applied standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to a sequence of related collection tasks. OR 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate-level education OR superior academic achievement.
For the GS-09 :
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-07, in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience in, or directly related to economics or one of the specialized fields of economics. This experience must have equipped the candidate with the knowledge and ability to perform fully the work of the positon. Examples of qualifying experience include: With some assistance from senior staff provided collection expertise and feedback for economic and/or statistical programs. With some assistance from senior staff collected data in support of a wide range of economic and/or statistical surveys in the areas of; price, compensation, working conditions or related special test surveys. Performed routine analysis of collected information in order to discover and rectify common discrepancies. Applied knowledge of economic principles and statistical techniques in order to evaluate the data collected and to make adjustments to ensure reliability and comparability of the collected data. Prepared end-of-survey reports which critically evaluate collection experiences in relation to the following: survey design, survey specifications, survey materials, economic conditions impacting the industry, area studied, and trends in the industry and area. OR 2 years (36 semester hours) of progressively higher level education leading to a Master’s degree OR Master’s or equivalent graduate degree.
