We work hard to build authentic relationships with all Virginians by communicating with them in relevant, unique and surprising ways. Operating entirely on revenue from game sales, rather than tax dollars, the Virginia Lottery generates approximately $1.6 million per day for Virginia's K-12 public schools. The Virginia Lottery is seeking a creative and experienced Social Media Specialist to take the Lottery's social presence to the next level. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this position is responsible for developing the overall strategy and daily execution of the Lottery's content on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and emerging platforms as needed. The successful candidate will work to share the Lottery's brand, products, community involvement and our mission of supporting Virginia's K-12 public schools through creative storytelling across all channels, incorporating compelling graphics and video. This position requires work schedule flexibility critical to a 24/7 social arena (after business hours and weekends). The Social Media Specialist will leverage his or her experience and industry trends, as well as develop relationships across the organization to identify stories, and deliver relevant, clever, innovative and consistent messaging to our social media followers and fans. This position works in close collaboration with the Communications team and its PR agency of record to generate and organize content and measure success. The Specialist will also collaborate heavily with the Lottery's Advertising & Gaming Department and Digital Department. The Specialist will write all official rules governing Lottery social media promotions and coordinate the fulfillment of prizes given away via social media channels, including scheduling and conducting drawings with approved drawing tools. This position will also be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications The person selected for this position will have: * Proven work experience as a Social Media Specialist, Strategist or Manager. * Three plus years of experience using social media for brand awareness in a large organization. * Excellent multi-tasking skills. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Experience monitoring social media, reporting threats and opportunities. * Exceptional leadership capabilities and strong interpersonal skills. * Ability to work effectively under deadlines and juggle several assignments simultaneously. * Data, analytics, and metrics aptitudes. * Strong technical background with advanced computer skills. * Ability to work independently and as a team. * Aptitude to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. * Extremely strong presentation skills. * Flexible work hours are critical to the success of the position. * Ability to distinguish and behave using the Lottery's core values as a brand ambassador is a MUST. * Demonstrated experience and a passion for the social technology universe (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Foursquare, Flickr, blogs, wikis, RSS, social bookmarking, discussion forums and community software. * Experience with online monitoring and measurement platforms, including but not limited to, Facebook Insights, YouTube Insights, Google Analytics, HootSuite, TweetDeck, and Social Mention. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include: * BS/BA degree from an accredited college or university. * Experience with creating and identifying quality social media content related to gaming or entertainment brands.
Special Requirements The selected candidate will be required to pass a background investigation. Minimum travel required.
