Title - Garden Assistant
Reports to - Garden Manager
The Garden Assistant will work closely with the Garden Manager to oversee the operation of Silo Ridge's on-site organic garden, caring for farm animals, and assisting with the management of the harvest schedule. Our Garden and greenhouse produces fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs. We also have chickens that produce farm fresh eggs, along with goats, and rabbits. Showcase the garden it members, guests, and prospects by talking about the offerings and benefits.
Daily maintenance of plants, vegetables, fruits, and flowers to include planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and harvesting.
Manage care for farm animals (chickens and rabbits) to include but not limited to providing food, water, and cleaning pens/cages.
Respond to all member requests promptly.
Manage the seeding schedule for all fruits and vegetables.
Monitor harvest weights.
Work with the Garden Manager to create and execute new offerings and activities.
Instruct and participate in member activities at the garden.
Report any safety or maintenance concerns to the Garden Manager.
Stock and re-stock items as needed throughout the day.
Maintain cleanliness and appearance for work area throughout the day.
Operation of small garden tools and machinery such as tractors and tillers.
Complete daily set-up and breakdown of all of the department’s activities.
Attend department meetings and trainings as necessary.
Any other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
No specific degree required - though a bachelor's may be desirable
2 years experience with garden or farm work strongly preferred.
CPR, AED, First Aid Certification strongly preferred.
Valid Drivers License preferred.
Ability to follow oral and written directions in English.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
