JOB SUMMARY/SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Provides competent and age specific services for transporting patients between patient rooms,
ancillary departments, and other areas within Jackson Madison County General Hospital. They
will provide other assigned procedures under the supervision of the department management and
licensed personnel while maintaining productivity standards and occupational growth.
This position is under the direction of the Manager and Supervisor of Patient Transportation, the
Transport Tech is responsible for, but not limited to, the transports of inpatients and outpatients
between hospital departments. Employee will be involved in direct and indirect patient care,
including patient transfers, patient lifts, and other tasks that promote quality patient satisfaction.
Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Receives and documents complete information regarding patient transport form patient
tracking system and/or dispatcher.
2. Safely transports inpatients and outpatients between hospital departments using
wheelchair, stretcher, bed, or escort as appropriate.
3. Performs direct and indirect patient care responsibilities to meet patient needs.
4. Always ensures patient safety by checking patient's armband and chart; using Seatbelts
when available; placing guardrails in the upright position at all times during transport;
properly transporting oxygen and IV pumps with patients; assisting patient to and from bed
to wheelchair to stretcher.
5. Ensures patient record accompanies patient. Signs patient on and off the nursing unit
6. Assumes responsibility for ensuring continued occupational growth.
7. Incorporates age specific principles into job responsibilities and communication skills.
8. Participates in the Quality Improvement Plan.
9. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
High school education or equivalency
Must complete Job Placement Assessment and Back School as provided by
Occupational Rehab Center
Minimum of six to eight (6 - 8) hours of classroom training in clinical and patient care.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation within 6 months of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Completes mandatory safety management education in a timely manner.
Apply contents of material learned through Job Placement Assessment training to
ensure safety for the patient and self.
Participates in continuing education through attending annual clinical skills fair.
Maintain age specific skills with patients from neonatal through geriatric.
Demonstrates an understanding of and meet productivity standards set for the

Demonstrates good working relationships with patients, families, peers, team members,
physician, supervisors, and other West Tennessee Healthcare staff.

Complete assignments accurately and within allotted time. Productivity is monitored by
departmental dispatchers and patient tracking system.
Ensures preventable injuries do not occur to patients, visitors, fellow employees, or self
and ensure correction of all hazards (including environment).
Able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and visitors.
Ability to exchange and provide patient care information to licensed personnel.
Provide comfort and support to patients, families, and visitors on a constant basis.
Pass on job related information to appropriate licensed personnel.
Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.
Considerate physical effort is required.
Frequent use of wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds
Frequent lifting and moving patients from 200-225 pounds.
Physical demands can include:
Continuously walking, standing. Using hands, firm gripping, communicating, pulling,
bending, stooping and visual inspection.
Frequent simple gripping. Pinching. Lifting 25-50 pounds while transferring patients,
reaching overhead with one or both arms.
Occasionally squatting, sitting, lifting 25 pounds.
May and will have contact with people who are emotionally upset.
May be exposed to human waste and body fluids and infectious diseases. Uses standard
precautions with all patients.
Exposure to chemical cleaning agents.
Frequent use of liquid oxygen containers while filling portable oxygen tanks.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Understands and adheres to West Tennessee Healthcare’s compliance standards as

The employee is expected to adhere to all WTH policies and procedures.
