Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our four major business lines include Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

The Wholesale Control (WC) organization serves as the front line risk management organization within the Wholesale Banking group of Wells Fargo, supporting the Wholesale businesses with risk strategy, implementation, and execution. The Wholesale Control team is accountable to assess and effectively manage risks across all risk types and Wholesale businesses, delivering an integrated view of risks, producing a sustainable control environment, and instilling a culture of strong risk management. The team is responsible to identify and assess risks, design and implement controls, and execute and monitor the controls to ensure they are working effectively to manage risk across Wholesale. Wholesale Control interfaces with Independent Risk Management and Audit to drive comprehensive and consistent implementation of regulatory and corporate risk policies and programs across Wholesale.

Community Lending & Investment (CLI) is an investment and lending business leading Wells Fargo’s community reinvestment efforts targeting economic development, job creation, and affordable housing in low to moderate income communities in which Wells Fargo has a banking presence. CLI’s primary purpose is to lend or invest in transactions for the benefit of public welfare to support Wells Fargo’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) performance evaluation compliance with the OCC, executing both debt and investment transactions.

This Operational Risk Consultant 4 will provide Business Control Management support for CLI and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring risk-based programs to identify, assess, and mitigate risks that arise from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events, while maintaining a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.

Acts as a control and risk point of contact to the business segment
Works closely with business partners to design controls to mitigate risks
Assists the business in describing and documenting procedures covering control processes
Assists in the implementation of control and risk programs within the business

Assists with:
Evaluation of the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls
Analysis of business and/or system changes to determine impact
Identification and assessment of risk issues and the assignment of risk ratings consistent with established policy standards
Consults with business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change
Reports findings and drafts recommendations to mitigate risk to business management
May coordinate production of periodic control/risk performance reports for senior management, including trend analysis and recommended strategies
Assists with Testing and Audit support, acting as a subject matter expert on processes, controls, and aligned policies; may also assist in the gathering of information in support of any testing, audit, or review activity
May manage work flow of team and or manage team members, based on business need
Locations: Preferred locations are listed, however other locations where CLI has business offices will be considered.

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

6+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 6+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

Prior experience or exposure in adapting to and/or reviewing/understanding policies and/or procedures, particularly those tied to regulatory compliance requirements
Experience in and/or exposure to risk and control monitoring and reporting (including control evaluation and assessment)
Self-motivated with proven ability to be adaptable to a dynamic work environment with multiple priorities and strict timelines
Strong management reporting skills, ability to translate data into actionable information; experience in the coordination, creation, and review and/or facilitation of reporting for consumption by senior leaders and/or board of directors
Experience with Wells Fargo’s corporate organizational structure, operating model, and the systems necessary to support the business control program (e.g. SHRP, RCSA, ILD, DLP, etc.)
Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and understanding of how they are implemented, managed, and enforced in a LOB
Demonstrated leadership ability that embodies the Wells Fargo Vision & Values, unwavering ethical integrity, and leadership competencies
Proven ability to proactively manage and resolve conflict and effectively defend decisions with objective rationale
Demonstrated ability to solve problems and analyze issues when data is collected from multiple sources, and knowledge of how to ask the right questions to obtain the information needed to properly assess potential risks
Ability to manage multiple assignments and tasks, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions and work assignments
Knowledge of CLI products and services (as applicable)

The salary range displayed below is based on a Full-time 40 hour a week schedule.
