Provide Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) to The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Nuclear Technologies Department, Nuclear Survivability Division as a subject matter expert in Computational Biology. Provide subject matter expertise to support DoD research and development in nuclear detonation human effects modeling and to a lesser extent DoD radiation dose assessment/radiogenic disease compensation support. Will join a government team of two health physicists (a civilian GS-15 of 40+ years’ experience and a naval officer of 20+ years of experience). Will also work with a nuclear detonation health effects contract scientific team and to a lesser extent DTRA’s Nuclear Test Personnel Review team. This individual will primarily support development of DTRA’s Health Effects from Nuclear & Radiological Environments (HENRE) software tool in support of combatant commander consequence assessment requirements and the Joint Surgeon’s medical planning needs (See attachment A). In addition to technical development, there is a need to provide DTRA acquisition management and administrative support to include: assisting in developing procurement packages for follow-on contractual requirements; assisting in day-to-day contract support, and responding to interagency, DoD, and DTRA taskers and other actions as needed.
A graduate degree in Computational Biology or other relevant scientific/engineering field (Master of Science plus 3 years of relevant experience or Doctorate). Applicant should be skilled in pertinent programming languages (R, Python, C++, …). Applicant must be able to complete work with minimum guidance and supervision. Applicant must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Travel maybe required to present papers at scientific meetings (10% or less).
