JOB TITLE: COMMERCIAL APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN

REPORTS TO: Electrical Supervisor

NATURE OF WORK:

Work will consist of assisting with the installation, alterations, additions, troubleshooting, and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the electrical construction industries at construction sites, factories, and businesses.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in installing electrical systems, either below 40,000 watts or above.
  • Install lighting, electrical outlets, and circuit breakers.
  • Thread conduit ends and connect couplings and conduit fittings using wrench.
  • Secure brackets to bulkheads with screws and bolts and pull wires through conduit leading to connection boxes, switch panels, and other terminals.
  • Use tools such as conduit benders, screwdrivers, pliers, knives, hacksaws, and wire strippers.
  • Install and replace faulty circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, or wire.
  • Install and replace old fuse boxes.
  • Hook up appliances for power.
  • Install new lighting and ceiling fans.
  • Repair motors, transformers, generators, and electronic controllers on machine tools and industrial robots.
  • Performs labor of site preparation.
  • Assist in inspections. Ensuring scheduled checks for spotting any malfunctions and preventative maintenance
  • Complying with all safety norms and regulations of working
  • Coordinating work functions with co-workers and other organizational departments

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

LICENSES: Current Driver’s License with an acceptable driver history record, CDL (current or planned)

TRANSPORTATION: Must have own transportation to get to Company base or jobsite.

EDUCATION: High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent training

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 years of electrical experience (commercial preferred) or equivalent trade training

JOB TITLE: OIL FIELD APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN

REPORTS TO: Electrical Supervisor

NATURE OF WORK:

Work will consist of installation, alterations, additions, troubleshooting, and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the electrical construction industries, Assists a Journeyman Electrician on tasks performed by Journeyman Electrician under direct supervision. Performs labor of site preparation and line preparation for overhead and underground lines.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all uncertified electrical tasks with general supervision and certified electrical tasks with direct supervision, possess/obtain Apprentice Electrician certification. Can read schematics, read blueprints, terminate cable, install and trouble shoot control wiring from drawings, is able to demonstrate experience factors exceeding a general laborer and must be sufficient on rough-in work.

TASKS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Pull line
  • Wire relays, switches, meters, control boxes
  • Wire and conduit sizing
  • Switchgear and device installation and termination
  • Layout and preparation for installation
  • Wire motors and controls
  • Fully comprehends Electrical theory and NFPA 70 National Electric Code via training courses and on-the-job training
  • Assist with power line construction
  • May be required to install transformers, replace fuses, and capacitors
  • Operate digger and/or bucket truck
  • Operate backhoe and/or trencher
  • Track inventory used and inform supervisor on low or out of stock items
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of all electrical units at the job site
  • Ensuring scheduled checks for spotting any malfunctions and preventative maintenance
  • Complying with all safety norms and regulations of working

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Job requires working in all elements, depending upon job location, time of year (heat, cold, rain, snow)
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns)
  • Employees required to have personal tools and safety gear with them at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs)
  • Work from 50’ expansion bucket truck to pole heights up to 60’
  • Able to climb oil tank ladders and scaffolding
  • Employee’s personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of bucket on bucket truck (350 lbs)
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hot gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, FRC clothing)
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
  • Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required and on call schedule

SKILLS:

  • Positively identify colors of wires
  • Comprehends reading and drawing prints and schematics
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders
  • Must use all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches
  • Capable of digging trenches either by use of hand tools or power equipment
  • Operate equipment, trenchers, back hoe, lift in a safe manner
  • Practices and comprehends safe work procedures per Company policy
  • Operate two-handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers
  • Operate company trucks with manual and automatic transmissions
  • Reads and interprets maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blueprints and written instructions (English)
  • Ability to track and record tasks, time, and materials used daily

PHYSICAL FUNTIONS:

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
  • Must be able to climb in and out of a bucket on bucket truck multiple times a day
  • Constantly moving your feet
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Completing overhead work for full day assignments
  • Must be able to make transition from employee transportation into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the job site, even if the only means of access is by OSHA approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use
  • Possess good vision (normal or corrected)
  • Responsible for securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks
