Editorial Assistant

Basic Purpose:
To assist in the manuscript production of the Neurology journals, working with editors, authors, reviewers, and other staff in handling customer service, soliciting peer reviewers, proofing and checking manuscripts for plagiarism, scheduling.

Primary Duties:
Perform customer service for editors, authors, reviewers of medical scientific manuscripts submitted to Neurology and Neurology spin-off Web sites.
Answer or route phone calls and journal email inbox queries during published journal office hours
Co-coordinate weekly Neurology Podcast content, including scheduling interviews, coordinating audio production, and writing and updating online show descriptions
Obtain user statics/editor performance statistics as needed.
Use software to detect overlap in submitted articles with published articles.
Research potential reviewers for associate editors
Help with maintenance and training of editors on tracking site for authors.
Solicit articles and editorials as requested by editor or journal managing editor
Work with podcast production team.
Handle manuscripts undergoing peer review, solicit reviewers, special correspondence to authors/reviewers.
Research ethics violations by authors & reviewers.
Prepare agendas and minutes, submit project tickets
Review and edit page proofs to correct figures, style, and content
Handle special publishing projects as needed
Other tasks as needed for journal production, often overlapping with work on other Neurology journals

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Experience: 1 - 3 years of related professional experience

Skills:
Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
Must be proficient in PowerPoint
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Strong attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle confidential information
Strong customer service skills

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibility

Physical Demands: Occasional bending and lifting up to 40 pounds and ability to sit for long periods of time.

Travel Requirements: Some travel required
