Who You Are:
Supergoop! is looking for a skin care/beauty lover with a passion for innovation to join the team as a Manager of Product Development. In this role you will be responsible for the development and execution of Body and Skincare products on a global scale and will oversee the conceptualization, development, evaluation, testing and commercialization of new products and reformulations. Reporting to the Director of Product Development and working cross functionally in a dynamic team environment, this position requires a keen eye for innovation, excellent attention to detail and proactive problem solving skills, and and passion for creating unique, efficacious products for the global Supergoop! customer. This position works out of our NYC based office and is on a hybrid office model.
Responsibilities:
Research & Innovation : Actively impact a 2-5 year development pipeline
- Foster strong relationships with Contract Manufacturers to maintain a working knowledge of trends and upcoming innovation for ingredients, formats, and textures.
- Maintain a deep knowledge of the global skincare, bodycare and suncare categories including regional consumer differences to help identify gaps in product assortment and new business opportunities.
- Leverage competitive research and trend presentations to identify key formula development opportunities within the brand including white space, points of difference, and ongoing improvements.
Formula Development Execution : Drive open projects
- Write and issue comprehensive Product Development Briefs for the upcoming calendar in collaboration with the Director – identify formula concept, point of difference, ingredient stories, claims and ongoing improvements
- Run weekly meetings and manage communication with contract manufacturers to execute briefs, track progress on development and drive timelines for on-time launches.
- Evaluate lab submissions, request necessary modifications and track feedback. Ensure that new products meet requested product attributes, performance targets and ingredient and regulatory requirements.
- Work with Coordinator to design internal testing panels to gather feedback on open developments, analyze data and create thoughtful summaries and recommendations to Category Director.
- Draft product knowledge marketing and educational materials, positioning statements and fact sheets to support the Director on cross-functional communication for every new product launch.
- Oversee Coordinator in maintaining catalogued library of physical samples and digital documentation.
- Work with QA Manager to ensure formulas meet testing requirements for efficacy and OTC/drug stability testing, highlighting timing & launch impacts to PD Director
- Develop & execute consumer and clinical testing plans to support product positioning
- Assist Director in managing the annual NPD budget.
- Work across multi-departmental teams to provide technical expertise and help address product questions and concerns.
Commercialization : Manage Product Launches
- Work directly with the Commercialization team to monitor each project's critical path activities and drive projects to meet launch deadlines.
- Work closely with the Packaging, Regulatory, Quality, Marketing, and Operations teams to bring all new launches to life.
- Identify, communicate and help mitigate potential risks to the Director effectively in order to meet project timeline commitments and product expectations
Team Support – Support a Team Culture
- Assist Director in training coordinator and interns on product development processes.
- Support Coordinator with prioritization of tasks, removing roadblocks and explaining goals clearly, with a focus on education and knowledge sharing.
- Motivate and support the engagement of team members and identify key moments to highlight their growth, contributions and visibility within the department.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Prior proven experience of working experience in product development in the beauty or personal care industries, 4 or more years preferred
- Skincare and/or Sun care experience a plus
- Proven track record in supporting end-to-end product launches
- Knowledge of formulation, ingredient technology, and skilled in texture and shade evaluation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Highly organized and attentive to detail
- Some travel will be required
- This position is on a hybrid office model and will require being in our NYC based office multiple times a week
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 commensurate with experience
