WHAT IS THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT & SECURITY SERVICES (FMSS) DIVISION: FMSS customers are IRS employees – FMSS identifies and delivers value-added, cost efficient, shared service solutions, that facilitate the success of the IRS mission including, but not limited to, real estate and portfolio solutions, building infrastructure and facilities management, security services, employee credentialing, environmental health and safety and incident management.
WHAT DOES A STAFF ASSISTANT DO? Staff Assistants provide administrative and clerical support to a Chief and his/her staff. They perform clerical and technical work in support of the function including, but not limited to, general office work such as receiving, screening, and answering telephone calls; providing telephone and receptionist services to visitors; establishing, organizing, and maintaining files; and typing and reviewing correspondence.
As a Staff Assistant, you will:
Receive, screen, and answer routine telephone calls, and provide receptionist services to visitors.
Establish, organize, and maintain files of correspondence, manuals, and other related information in accordance with IRS regulatory policies and guidance.
Reviews all incoming mail and correspondence to determine proper action; and, as appropriate, prepares written responses.
Use a variety of computer software programs involving the application of word processing, spreadsheet, slide-presentation, and statistical database programs to input, update, retrieve, gather, and generate data or reports.
If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
