Cummings Properties is seeking an experienced technical professional to manage, maintain, and enhance its suite of database applications that support the day-to-day operations of the business.

This position requires a strong working knowledge of MS Access, Visual Basic, and Excel, as well as a high level of comfort with – and knowledge of – how to access and integrate with typical main-line sources of corporate data, such as accounting and GL systems from multiple departments to design, build, and enhance useful database applications. The ability to map out existing and prospective business and financial operations processes and workflow is required in order to build applications, forms, reports, and queries that will be integral to the information management needs of the business.

MS Access is the current database backbone, but the successful candidate should have an interest in exploring and learning how best to migrate to solutions based on newer platforms such as SQL Server, Quickbase, or others, and should be willing to become proficient in that next potential database platform.

The ideal candidate will be a curious problem solver with solid technical skills and someone who is resourceful and will figure out how to get the answers to deliver solutions that work. S/he will work with a wide variety of end users, so having a collegial personality and being a team player is essential.

Specific duties:

  • Maintain and enhance dozens of existing Access applications
  • Design and create new Access applications as needed
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and create VBA code and stored procedures related to the applications
  • Design, create, and maintain reports and report functionality in Access and Excel
  • Modify existing and create new user interfaces in MS Access
  • Test applications
  • Document and map applications
  • Stay current on database software and IT trends and topics
  • Work with end users and management on ad hoc data-related projects
  • Assist with general IT matters on an as-needed basis

Desired Experience:

  • MS Access: 4 years
  • VBA: 4 years
  • Excel: 4 years
