Functions/Duties of Position
The Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials lab at OHSU School of Dentistry, affiliated to OHSUs Center for Regenerative Medicine and Department of Biomedical Engineering, is recruiting a Post-doctoral researcher who can provide a full range of support, with minimal supervision, in the research laboratory. Must be able to work effectively with the principal investigator and co-supervise graduate students, and independently solve problems.
The position is primarily focused on bone (and potentially bone marrow) tissue engineering, which a special emphasis bioprinting, biomineralization and vascularization.
Experience with animal models of bone regeneration is required, and past experience with bone marrow functional assays will also be considered highly. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in biomedical engineering, biomaterials or stem cell research, a strong record of publications, a proven record of independence. A background in microfluidics will be considered highly. The position includes a modest amount of basic laboratory operations (basic instrumentation maintenance, general laboratory support, biosafety, ordering materials and supplies) and support with editing grants/manuscripts.
Masters degree with major courses in relevant field (Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials, Stem Cell Biology, or related field) and 3 years of relevant experience
Three years of laboratory experience with tissue engineering, organs-on-a-chip, stem cell culture and hydrogels
Techniques required include stem cell culture, hydrogel synthesis, mechanical testing, electron and fluorescence microscopy, biomineralization, immunohistochemistry
Understanding of basic chemical principles and laboratory research
Willingness to learn new techniques and procedures
Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and time management skills
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
Able to conduct research in a multidisciplinary, fast paced research environment, occasionally with tight deadlines
Able to work independently, conducting biological and engineering related experiments with cells and biomaterials
Able to stand at a lab bench, sit at a microscope, perform laboratory manipulations, move and carry light lab equipment, perform image analysis experiments, operate computers and related software, communicate easily with co-workers and support staff, assist and instruct other lab members with scientific methods
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Previous experience in-vivo models of bone regeneration
