Reporting to the General Manager and as a key member of the Marigold Leadership Team, the Manager Operational Excellence will establish an operating environment of Continuous Improvement for safer, more profitable and competitive mining operations. This is achieved by proactively pursuing improvement opportunities, positively drive change management, making data-based decisions, establishing measurable and repeatable performance to maximize effective use of assets and assist the business in meeting agreed production, cost and improvement targets in a sustainable manner.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY & DUTIES
Responsible for establishing and implementing leading practices in:
Set up and support site based OE programs
Clear KPI and visual management systems across site
Tracking of key equipment and process performance
Value stream analysis that drives the CI programs
Production and Maintenance workflow management
Facilitation and training on key OE tools and processes
Data analytics, data systems and innovation
Company-wide, standard operating procedures
Contribution to broader Corporate OE programs
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the site’s operations including organization structure, people and capability, and technical systems in use.
Work with site Managers to develop an operating and maintenance strategy to meet the business plan. This will include the development of business cases for the recommended changes or improvements.
Understand significant deviations from the operating plan and budget and work with site leaders to identify corrective actions using appropriate continuous improvement tools (kaizen, visual systems, 5S, gemba, six sigma, LEAN, FMEA, RCA).
Routinely perform requisite analytics on the systems, constraints, cost drivers, and performance measures and integrate into site continuous improvement plans.
Develop reporting methodologies to capture and track the benefits and savings of operational improvement initiatives to illustrate the sustained benefit of the improvements.
Document and publish detailed workflows, processes, standards and procedures relevant to operational reporting, and in support of identifying best practices and lessons learned.
Assist with site projects where required, from initial scoping & chartering stage through to project close-out with benefits realization.
Coaching and training of site teams in the Operating Excellence (OE) model.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
A degree from a recognized university, preferably in engineering.
Minimum 10 years overall experience including a minimum of 5 years of related business improvement experience within a Mining environment preferred.
Functional knowledge of mining and processing operations as well as maintenance and materials management would be preferred
Advance knowledge of business re-engineering and cost optimization initiatives.
Extensive experience in planning and implementation of performance improvement and transformation initiatives.
Experience/Knowledge in the principles of Theory of Constraints, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Value stream mapping, KPI development, RCA, hypothesis testing, DMAIC, SIPOC, A3, FMEA, 5S, visual management, fishbone, standard work, statistics, etc.).
Strong Excel skills and experience with data analytics tools incl SQL and PowerBI use.
Proficient as facilitator of workshops and process improvement initiatives using continuous improvement methodologies.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills.
