The Systems and Network Administrator ensures availability, reliability, and integrity of the systems and network infrastructure, enterprise data, and system services offered over the network.
Essential Job Functions of Position:
Manage data communications (e.g. email) and connection solutions including workstation connectivity, local area networks, University’s website, intranet, and internet applications;
Recommend, configure and install servers, network hardware and software;
Assist with the development, design, and implementation activities for LAN , and WAN expansions;
Manage servers including operating system, database, e-mail, printers, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software;
Assist with the monitoring, testing, reporting and troubleshooting of network performance as needed;
Develop and manage user profiles and security roles to facilitate user setup and oversight of all network users;
Design multi server systems to meet University needs and resolve complex installation/ support problems;
Recommend, schedule and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, backups, patches, reconfigurations and/or purchases;
Assist in strategic planning and policy development covering ITS related issues;
Participate in negotiations with vendors and contractors to secure software, hardware and network products and services;
Participates in a 24×7 on-call rotation as assigned.
Performs additional job related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A combination of information technology education and/or experience equivalent to four years.
Preferred: Experience with Microsoft and SAN architecture design, techniques, theories, principles and best practices.
Licenses, Certifications & Registrations:
Must obtain Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer ( MCSE ) certification within 6 months of employment.
Preferred: Advanced system and network certifications Cisco ( CCNA ), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer ( MCSE ) or Red Hat Certified Engineer ( RHCE ).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Preferred: Knowledge of Microsoft technology implementation, configuration and support including Active Directory and related services. Design and management experience with VMware/HyperV and related products. Knowledge in Linux operating system management. Knowledge of a programming or scripting language (e.g. PowerShell, BASH , Perl).
Additional Requirements (e.g. Physical Demands):
Ability to move, maneuver and raise/lower equipment weighing as much as 50 pounds to waist height and for 20 feet.
