AbleVets, LLC, is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets, has an opportunity available for a Database Administrator to support a community/managed care program initiative. This position is located in Chantilly, Virginia.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
The DBA will be responsible for performing configuration, administration, and monitoring of multiple, complex databases. In addition, the Database Administrator will oversee day to day operations and maintenance support for the system and its end users. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned tasks and provide daily status updates. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Developing a methodology for the ongoing assessment of current database performance and the identification of problem areas
Developing a security scheme for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster and backup recovery
Providing on-call support when necessary
Troubleshooting database-related application performance issues

Continually improving monitoring, performing database capacity and usage planning

Troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, and security issues

Creating database objects (tables, indexes, etc.)

Developing database procedures, functions, and triggers

Maintaining team documentation

Evaluating data quality, consistency, and adherence to standards
Participating in production implementation planning
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other related field and at least five (5) years of related experience. An additional six (6) years of related experience can be substituted for degree requirement.
Demonstrated experience with one of the following databases in order of preference: Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server
Experience with troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, and security issues
Experience maintaining always up, high availability databases
Knowledge of integrity checks, configuration, and patching and how statistics work, how indexes are stored, and how they can be created and managed effectively
Self-starter that can work under general direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent organizational skills
Ability to obtain a Public Trust

Preferred/ Desired Skills:
Master’s degree in associated field
Previous IT work experience supporting medical management programs, i.e. VA Community Care, Veteran’s Choice, and/or VA Patient Centered Community Care Network
Demonstrated experience working within the Community Care or Managed Care fields to include: Referral Management, Claims Processing, Disease Management, Appointing, and/or Utilization Management
Experience with AWS as it relates to database backup and restore strategies
