Weekend Supervisor Job Description
Responsible to: Director of Nursing
Responsibility: Ensures that nursing care is provided according to established standards and policies. Renders nursing care to patients as presented by a physician. Helps train nursing staff, acts as liaison between nursing administration and residents, families, physicians, and staff.
Job Description and Duties:
Quality of Care
Responsible for complying with all local, state and federal regulations governing long term care.
Makes daily rounds and evaluates nursing care rendered to residents, including resident's physical, mental, and emotional status, and implements any required nursing intervention.
Conducts staff meetings and in-service training sessions as needed or requested by Unit Manager and/or Director of Nursing.
Supervises and evaluates performance of nursing personnel, including the assignment and delegation of staff responsible for all nursing care.
Actively participates in and promotes the facility QA program.
Actively participates in the facility infection control program.
Monitors for and educates/councils staff regarding unsafe acts or actions.
Works closely with physicians, lab, pharmacy, and therapy services to ensure safe and appropriate care of residents.
Promotes and maintains a professional working relationship with nursing personnel, physicians, other department personnel, residents, families, and visitors.
Implements all policies and procedures, any new resident care programs, or expansion of existing services.
Evaluates nursing staff according to policy.
Maintains staffing schedules to ensure 24 hour nursing coverage.
Reviews medication records, treatment records, and other nursing documentation for completeness and accuracy in the transcription of physician's orders, competition, and legibility.
Reviews resident's plans of care for appropriate goals and approaches, and makes revisions based on individual needs.
Helps orient new nursing staff.
Attends and participates in in-services.
Provides guidance for nursing personnel.

Performs other duties as assigned by Unit Manager, or Director of Nursing.

Conditions and Requirements
Graduate of accredited school of nursing
Currently registered with State Board of Nurse Examiners
Comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles and practices
Demonstrates proficient skills
Good physical and mental health
Ability to observe changes in a residents condition and report them to Nursing Office and Physician
Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 25 pounds or greater.
Understanding, patience, tact, and courtesy in dealing with employees, residents, and visitors
Ability to supervise staff and maintain good working relationships among personnel
Ability to cooperate with other health professionals and to coordinate efforts toward maximum resident care
Ability to recognize and solve problems
Memory for details
Ability to make decisions
Special interest in geriatric nursing
Is at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing duties
Ability to effectively communicate with residents, visitors, other employees, and management

Regulatory Requirements and Certifications
Must meet regulations for background checks
Must receive PPD or Chest X-ray annually
Must complete Silverchair Education requirements by due date
Must have valid VA Nursing License
Must have valid CPR Certification
