The Executive Director will develop, coordinate, and/or oversee all programming related to the Homeless Youth Project, including:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operation of the shelter (including licensing, food supply, property maintenance, household donations, etc.)
  • Street outreach to recruit targeted youth to the program
  • Resource development, including fundraising, grant writing, and soliciting donations for youth at the shelter (such as clothing, recreational equipment, linens, books, toiletries, etc.)
  • Project staffing (hiring, managing, and training staff), including Case Manager(s), Outreach Workers, House Parents, and Shelter Relief Staff
  • Volunteer recruitment and training
  • Compliance with grants, including compilation of required data, invoicing, and reporting
  • Preparation, tracking, and management of project budget, including the unique requirements of individual grants and contracts
  • Help support the efforts of the Board of Directors
  • Building of partnerships with other non-profit agencies, businesses, government, media and/or private entities to leverage and maximize program resources
  • Participation in community networks and coalitions
  • Routine meetings with youth, HYP staff, and Board of Directors for updates and program evaluations
  • Strategic planning to develop a multi-media center, oversee additional rehabilitation of the property, establish an entrepreneurial, youth-managed horticulture business, re-open a second shelter, and/or other future program enhancements
  • Supplementary case management for youth (including transporting, updating case/progress notes, updating case files, crisis management, and attend meeting regarding cases as needed)
  • In conjunction with the Case Manager, coordination and supervision of aftercare services for youth exiting the program
  • On-call during off hours to handle client facility crisis/emergency issues
  • All other duties as necessary to fulfill the job requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate for Executive Director will have:

  • Minimum of four years supervisory experience in a non-profit setting
  • Experience with program design, implementation, and management
  • Experience operating shelters
  • Fundraising/resource development experience
  • Experience managing grants and contracts, as well as reporting to funders
  • Experience managing street outreach
  • Familiarity with government and community organizations in Los Angeles, particularly in SPA 4 (examples include HUD, LAHSA, City of Los Angeles, LA Food Bank, homeless shelters, youth service organizations, immigrant and refugee services organizations, etc.)
  • Ability to recruit, train, maintain, and utilize volunteer base
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong oral/written communication skills
  • Self -starter with a proven track record, ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, business administration, or other relevant field (required), Master's degree (preferred)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $40,000.00 to $50,000.00 /year
