Report to: Winslow Mulry, Director of Horticulture
Locations: Primary work in Ipswich, Beverly, Rowley, MA - with some travel to other locations periodically included in the surrounding area.
Position Summary:
Horticulturists are responsible for general garden maintenance, greenhouse work, and landscape operations as directed by the Director of Horticulture. Under both supervision and independently, the gardener will serve as part of a crew working at a number of large corporate campuses along with a number of residential properties. They will be responsible for both maintenance and installations at the properties. Knowledge of plants is helpful, but experience in general garden maintenance is especially desired. The Horticulturist will work closely with the team, as well as independently, on tasks such as spring clean-ups, mulching, weed control, pruning, fall cutbacks and seasonal part-time winter work.
Responsibilities
- General maintenance including pruning, watering, weed control and fertilizing.
- Upkeep and maintenance of the indoor plant collection and greenhouse.
- Other duties as directed by the Director of Horticulture.
- Install and maintain an array of diverse garden beds.
- Operate equipment such as, but not limited to weed whips, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, etc.
- Operate snow blowers and shoveling.
Requirements
- 2+ years’ experience in horticulture in greenhouses, farms, gardens or landscapes.
- Curiosity, willingness to ask questions and eagerness to learn.
- Ability to clearly communicate with colleagues to share observations.
- Ability to work independently within a small team and take initiative towards shared priorities.
- Ability to use judgment in interpreting and following written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. or to assist another person in moving plants and supplies up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to handle physical requirements that include moving hoses, standing for long periods, climbing a ladder, bend, kneel, and squat.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with landscaping, garden maintenance and greenhouse operations.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record; comfortable driving a dump truck.
