PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The primary objective of this role is to develop productivity and process improvements across 4 glass manufacturing platforms. The successful candidate will collaborate with members of both the Composites and Insulation business units as well as the broader Advanced Manufacturing team and take a leading role in rapidly developing solutions to challenging problems that turn knowledge into value. A wide-ranging knowledge of glass chemistry, glass properties, glass raw materials, recycled cullet technology, melting technology, and forming operations is essential. The successful candidate will work closely with raw material and cullet vendors, Owens Corning production facilities, and our sourcing organization. The job is located in Granville, OH. Travel requirements are expected to be 20-30% including occasional international and domestic travel to production facilities, vendors, and other locations.

Reports to: Advanced Manufacturing Glass R&D Leader
Span of Control:
Work with Owens Corning production facilities, sourcing organizations, and vendors to reduce raw material cost, improve raw material quality and supply security
Develop solutions that improve Production Efficiency and or reduce Production Cost
Collaborate with product teams to improve product performance
Process Improvement (30%)
Develop property vs. chemistry models that enable improved process control
Collaborate with melting, fiber forming, and controls R&D groups to solve problems and improve process performance as part of a collective team
Operations Support (20%)
Trouble Shooting, Root Cause Analysis, Correcting & Preventing Performance Upsets
MS or PhD in Glass Science, Ceramic Science, Materials Science, or Geology
Minimum 3 years of experience (5+ preferred) in Glass R&D, Operations, or process optimization
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of recycled cullet processing and material handling
Knowledge of batch raw material processing and material handling
Strong fundamental knowledge of batch raw material and glass reactions
Communicates effectively (oral and written) to technicians, scientists, plants, marketing and leadership
Able to collaborate and work effectively across multiple organizations and technical disciplines
Documents research and trains others on process and product improvements
Files invention records and patent applications
Demonstrates Strong Project Leadership Skills Including:
Self-sufficient and capable of delivering solutions with minimal supervision
Capable of leading and functioning in a multi-disciplinary team
Communicates technical progress during project reviews with Senior Leaders
Strong understanding of basic financial concepts to deliver solutions with the greatest value
