SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs laboratory care for patients of all age groups through the use of laboratory processes; maintains positive working relationships with staff and other departments to provide optimal quality outcomes within the framework of professional laboratory practice. Perform waived, moderated and high complexity manual and automated testing. Independently performs a wide variety of laboratory procedures in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Immunology, Coagulation, and Microbiology. Perform maintenance and troubleshooting for all laboratory instruments for optimal performance. Perform appropriate patient identifiers while collecting and/or processing specimens for the laboratory. These responsibilities are met according to laboratory policies, AABB, JC, CLIA, and CAP regulations. Accepts all other duties as assigned.

Operationally, the MT/MLS reports to the section supervisor and the Laboratory Director.
Must be a MT/MLS certified by a national agency, or meet requirements as defined in the CLIA 88 Federal Register
Must pass WorkSTEPS and color blind Test
Must have at least one year of experience as a generalist
BLS certification required, new employee will have 60 days from date of hire to obtain certification
Point of Care experience preferred.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE: There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employees when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
