As part of the CTO Operations and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) group, the Enterprise Observability Team is responsible for delivering innovative, scalable, stable, and secure products that provide deep business insight, operational insight, and predictive analysis. As a member of the team, you will be a key contributor to the development of products that provide full stack observability including application monitoring, logging, alerting, and visualization.
As part of the Enterprise Observability team, the Senior Application Systems Engineer you be a key contributer to design and implement major strategic solutions in the Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and Elastic Search space. In addition, the drive to join the effort in challenging the status quo of what traditional banking technology can offer to benefit our customers and improve the overall health of our business. This engineer will have experience with one or more of the application monitoring tools including AppDynamics, Splunk, ITRS Geneos, RTView, Dynatrace, Elastic APM, Grafana, Prometheus, Pagerduty, Zabbix.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Deliver customer-centric service and monitoring solutions using agile and good risk management processes.
Establish customized monitoring dashboards, thresholds, alerting to fully enable Wells Fargo application and support teams.
Serve as a subject matter expert on APM tools.
Understanding complex application frameworks, flows, and assist with developing and implementing custom monitoring solutions.
Analyze all platform level changes, monitor impact for same, and provide appropriate technical solutions to resolve all issues efficiently.
Develop new documentation, departmental technical procedures and user guides.
Conduct market research of competitive offerings and manage proof-of-concept (PoC) and pilot phases for monitoring tools.
Demonstrate outstanding communication, flexibility, teamwork and leadership.
Participate in an on-call rotation support to manage and maintain a large infrastructure environment for APM tools.
7+ years of application development and implementation experience
2+ years of middleware experience
3 + years of experience troubleshooting environments across the entire architecture (i.e. applications to infrastructure)
5+ years of experience engineering and analyzing both Windows based and Unix based operating systems
Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge and understanding of AppDynamics
Knowledge and understanding of technology monitoring: technologies
Experience with availability and performance monitoring technology vendors
Other Desired Qualifications
Experience with one or more Agile tools used for tracking user stories or backlogs, such as VersionOne and Team Foundation Server (TFS)
Experience with major database engines including Oracle, SQL Server and DB2
Knowledge and understanding of application profiling and performance tuning of highly scalable and available systems
Ability to research, design, implement, and test industry best practices
Knowledge and understanding of technology software: development and life cycle (SDLC) methodology
2+ years of reporting experience, analytics experience or a combination of both
A BS/BA degree or higher in information technology
Knowledge of industry wide technology strategies and best practices.
Application development and implementation experience with Java or .NET and related CI/CD development toolsets and processes.
Ability to profile an application to help understand baseline and performance trends.
Experience with automation or configuration management tools like HPSA, Puppet or Chef.
Knowledge and understanding of Splunk, Elastic search or similar tools.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Knowledge and understanding of operations performance management metrics development.
Experience working on Agile teams with understanding of agile methodology and processes
Scripting knowledge in Python, Perl, shell scripting, Windows PowerShell, etc.
Able to use analytics tools such as MS Excel and to do simple reporting queries from reporting tools/sites
Identify opportunities to enhance existing processes, provide inputs for process improvement
Should have experience working with the ticketing systems such as Remedy PAC2000/Services Now etc.
