Job Description
This position is for a technically-minded highly organized individual to serve as a shipping and receiving clerk for a commercial calibration laboratory. On-the-job (OJT) training provided for the right candidate for learning the technical applications and nomenclature of equipment received.
As a Shipping and Receiving Clerk you will perform routine packing and unpacking of customer equipment received and shipped via shipping/freight companies. Your work area is a clean warehouse environment fully heated and air conditioned.

Skills and Requirements

Some experience in a shipping/receiving department is preferred
- MUST have a valid driver's license with good driving record
- Data entry computer skills
- Knowledgeable with Windows, Microsoft Office, and Internet applications
- Good customer service communication skills both written and oral
- Basic math skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds unassisted
- MUST pass a general aptitude entrance exam (see Application Process below)
- Knowledge of postal or commercial shipping methods and procedures is a plus
- While much of the job entails sitting, some standing and bending is required.
Education
Minimum level of education required is a High School graduate.
Responsibilities

Perform packing and unpacking of equipment received from customers and vendors.
- Special care in handing and packing of delicate or expensive client-owned equipment.
- Review work order requirements to determine order picking activities and pick orders according to the specific instructions provided by the customer.
- Ensure that items received and shipped match the client purchase order or packing slip.
- Provide equipment receipts for items that are dropped off by our clients.
- Process items for shipment via Fedex or UPS
- Ascertain that all incoming and outgoing shipments are properly labeled and that correlating documents are created and available with each shipment.
- Route incoming equipment to incoming shelves, including placement and notification of expedited orders.
- Assist in maintaining shipping/receiving and laboratory spaces clean and orderly which includes daily and weekly cleaning activities.
- Enter client equipment information including an accurate count of equipment accessories received into our database.
Reports To
The Shipping/Receiving Clerk reports directly to the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and fellow technically skilled coworkers is crucial. In addition, this includes clear and unambiguous writing, interpretation and documentation by regular use of computers and email for communication.
Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting packaging, documents and other laboratory activities.
Mild to moderate physical activity; sitting, standing, and bending.
