Farmers Market and SNAP Outreach Coordinator

Groundwork Southcoast(GWSC) is seeking a Farmers Market, and SNAP Outreach Coordinator for F3. F3 is a scattered site project for GWSC. F3’s primary urban farm site in New Bedford and the Farmers Market is in Fall River. The coordinator will run the F3 market in Fall River which runs on Tuesdays for 8 weeks beginning 7/8/18 (40% of time). This is a new market and requires a lot of community outreach, out in the Flint Neighborhood visiting residents, businesses and nonprofits with a focus on reaching SNAP recipients because this is the only market that accepts SNAP in Fall River (30% of time). This will also require outreach to farmers to attend the market as well. A key piece of this role will be also marketing the F3 farmers market through Facebook, the website, press releases, print media, and word of mouth (15% of time). The coordinator will work with two members of Green Team, to assist with outreach, and the Executive Director to cultivate local volunteers , farmers market partners and service groups, to support the F3 farmers market (15% of time). The coordinator will also be responsible for watering and general maintenance of the raised beds at the Watson School in the Flint (5% of time).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily F3 market operations.
  • Manage farmers’ market sales, and donations at local soup kitchens.
  • Maintain sales logs.
  • Train youth proper handling and technique market equipment. including: develop and oversee tasks for youth at the market. Ensure that tasks are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Lead workshops on nutrition, and healthy living and running an effective market.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Set up and break down of the market
  • Managing EBT / Credit machine
  • Tracking customer numbers, vendors sales and pounds of produce sold
  • Communicating with vendors and customers; especially about SNAP: outreach and enrollment or certification
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong Communication Skills. Including creating daily social media content.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in all weather conditions.


  • Bilingual in English/Spanish/Portuguese/Cape Verdean Creole STRONGLY preferred
  • Experienced working in multicultural settings
  • Self-starter and work well independently, as well as accept supervision
  • Reliable and flexible and able to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends
  • Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; social media posting: Facebook, Instagram, Webpage updates and blog posts
  • Experience in agricultural or nutrition education
  • Experience working with youth
  • Over 21 and driver’s licence strongly preferred

Employment Dates & Compensation: June 15, 2018 – September 1, 2018 (20-30 hours/week at $15/hour) This is a seasonal, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Executive Director.
