Our mission: Habitat for Humanity Anchorage works in partnership with people throughout the community to build houses, build hope and change lives. We do this by building and renovating simple, decent and affordable houses and by using our voice in the community to make
adequate housing a matter of conscience and action. Habitat sells its houses at cost to qualified low-income Anchorage individuals and families. Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Habitat for Humanity of Anchorage (HFHA) is currently seeking a dynamic Executive Director who will serve as a strong visionary leader working in partnership with the Board of Directors to develop goals and strategies consistent with the vision, mission and values of HFHA. This position oversees all programs to ensure staffing and the financial capacity necessary to accomplish goals established by the Board of Directors and ensures compliance with reporting and regulatory requirements.
Candidates should demonstrate strong servant leadership, a collaborative working style, interpersonal and supervisory skills; keen business acumen; excellent judgment and instincts; a strong work ethic; a positive outlook; and a bias for action. Candidates must be comfortable leading in a global, humanitarian, Christian based organization and serving as the public face of HFHA.
Operations & Program Management
Manage day to day operations of the organization ensuring that all facets of the organization efficiently and effectively fulfill the Mission of HFHA.
Translate plans into operational actions with measurable results and clear accountability.
Ensure official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and Habitat for Humanity International standards are maintained.
Engage external organizations and communities to understand significant developments and trends in the area of safe, affordable housing.
Support the promotion, growth, and purpose of the ReStore retail operation.
Communications & Public Relations
Publicize the activities of HFHA, its programs and goals to maintain a positive image of the organization by agencies, organizations and the general public.
Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations including investors, other affordable housing organizations and other entities needed to support HFHA mission.
Establish a deliberate, comprehensive advocacy program that identifies key issues, opportunities and stakeholders and builds targeted advocacy activities into routine business plans and processes.
Determine staffing and capacity needs of HFHA including employees and volunteers.
Responsible for employee relations including, but not limited to, recruitment, professional development, evaluation, corrective action, and compliance.
Encourage staff and volunteer development and education and assist all staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.
Willingness and ability to be an effective member of a team and treat individuals respectfully regardless of position or status.
Provide inspirational leadership and direction, developing leaders within the organization who share passion for the mission.
Budget & Finance
Lead the collective work of the full Management Team to assure HFHA continues to operate a fiscally responsible annual budget with transparency.
In conjunction with the Board of Directors, facilitate the creation and implementation of annual budgets, goals and objectives.
Present reports on financial planning, status, anticipated problems and alternatives.
Secure funding from various sources including, but not limited to: grants, private and corporate donors; oversee preparation of grant applications and provide oversight to proper reporting and tracking of all grant expenditures and outcomes.
Establish appropriate accountability measures to achieve revenue targets at each ReStore.
Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
Cultivate a strong, diverse, inclusive and highly engaged Board that is a valuable resource to the affiliate.
Assist the Board in strategic planning and advise the Board on issues affecting the achievement of HFHA’s mission.
Ensure effective board relation through regular communication and advice.
General Skills & Abilities
Know and support HFHA’s purpose, vision and values.
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience required.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of experience in an appropriate field (fundraising, community advocacy, public administration, etc.) required.
Non-profit experience preferred.
Previous development experience including raising funds from private and public sectors and oversight of successful grant applications preferred.
Demonstrated ability to effectively prepare and administer budgets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with various individuals and diverse groups including making effective public presentations.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to the benefit of the organization and bring diverse groups together to work collaboratively in a positive environment.
Able to work successfully under pressure and to handle competing priorities.
Resilient in the face of change.
Energetic, collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service and team-player mentality and ability to develop team momentum.
