The Director of Human Resources will ensure a highly engaged workforce which
supports retention, advancement and high performance for all employees. This
position serves as the strategic leader for all agency HR needs and responsibilities
is responsible for developing and executing our human resource strategy,
specifically in the areas of talent management, training, staff development,
performance management and compensation. Responsible for articulation our HR
needs and plans to the executive management team, they ensure that Friends of
Youth recruits, trains and retains highly qualified and excellent staff, to meet our
mission and vision. This is an engaged, hands-on leadership role managing the
day-to-day HR needs of the organization while leading the key employee
engagement and HR visions for the organization. Serves as a strategic partner on
the Executive Leadership Team and actively contributes to the vision, mission, and
values of Friends of Youth.

Leads Human Resources staff to provide consultative services and serves as
a primary contact and principal resource regarding human resources issues.
Innovates and directs employee recruitment and retention strategies that fit
the current market, trends and needs of high performing employees.
Oversees development and implementation of Friends of Youth’s workplace
Works with Executive Leadership Team and HR staff to develop and implement
a supervisor and manager training program that incorporates necessary
components for continued supervisor and manager development including:
o HR and Employment Law training
o Friends of Youth’s Core Competencies and Manager Competencies
o Friends of Youth Culture
Evaluates organizational practices for compliance with laws, rules and policies.
As necessary, develops human resources practice recommendations that comply
with regulatory requirements while meeting or maintaining operational needs.
In conjunction with Finance Director and CFO, oversees and reviews employee
benefits programs including medical, dental, 401(k) plans, etc. for legal
compliance, cost efficiency, and competitiveness to market. Provides
recommendations for change as appropriate.
Provides information to employees regarding complaint resolution options.
Provides guidance to managers and supervisors responding to employee
Conducts, or assists managers with investigations to resolve allegations and
work with parties towards resolution of employee concerns.
Manages and produces annual budget for HR and monitors monthly expenses
to stay within assigned budget.
Provides consultative advice and educates managers and supervisors
regarding performance management and corrective actions. Ensures that
performance evaluations occur in compliance with agency policies, practices
Review market data and trends related to compensation programs and
recommends compensation policies and practices.
Oversees exit interviews and entrance interviews, analyzes data, and makes
recommendations to management for continuous improvement.
Develops and manages agency training and development programs in
coordination with Executive Leadership Team.
Conducts and/or coordinates formal and informal training sessions regarding
a variety of human resources topics.
Participates in committees and task forces and leadership team meetings
as requested. May provide leadership for special projects.
Maintains a professional and positive working relationship with clients,
vendors, volunteers, donors, and fellow staff and adheres to the Friends of
Youth Standards of Conduct.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business or related field with
a minimum of ten years of progressive HR experience and a minimum of ten years
of managerial experience or an equivalent combination of education, experience,
and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Relevant Professional Human Resources Certification, SPHR, PHR, GHR, etc.
Experience with Word, Excel, and database management programs.
Solid generalist background with broad knowledge of all areas of Human
Strong management and conflict resolution skills, detail oriented, flexible, able
to prioritize multiple projects.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong leadership and analytical skills.
Demonstrated experience and ability to interpret complex policies, and laws
including FMLA, etc.
Outstanding working knowledge of current Federal, State and local laws as
related to employment.
ADP experience preferred
Ability to apply knowledge of good management practices, performance
management, employment law, conflict resolution and compensation principles.
