Under general direction, responsible for providing support for. Expert at statistics, design of experiment,

Acts as systems engineer to unify the deployment of power transmission and control whether power is via electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or mechanical means.

Will learn current product line and future product market needs when it comes to controls and communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Validate product designs against performance criteria.
Critical reading, extracting for details, and aggregating understanding of regulatory requirements (CFR, FRA, OSHA, FMVSS, ADA, EN), industry standards (APTA, UL), professional standards (IEEE, ANSI, ASME, ASTM), customer requirements, and end user requirements.
Discerns between design verification testing and performance validation testing, to assist in focusing feedback and improvement efforts to designers.
Assesses, tests, and analyzes for wear or damage outside of intended use.

Designs tests appropriate to the task for data confidence and degrees of freedom.
Applies Scientific Method.
Understands and uses statistics.
Brainstorms with team for common misuse causes.
Participates in design phase failure mode analysis by cause.
Analyzes returned parts and/or assemblies for failure mode, cause(s), and prevention possibilities through training and/or redesign.
Applies working knowledge of Labview and/or other model event driven automation of test execution and automated data collection.

Executes tests appropriate to the task for data confidence and degrees of freedom.
Applies critical eye and attention to detail regarding safely planning for and executing tests.
Practices hands on knowledge of commonly used testing set-up processes and equipment.
Shows an aptitude for reading technical drawings.

Leads projects to optimize current processes and automate testing of products in lab.
Learn the current state of process.
Learn about all stakeholders and jobs that need to be accomplished fueled by testing formal or informal; internal or external; and pre-production or field return.
Lead kaizen to improve process.
Document improved process including roles and responsibilities.
Automate tasks where appropriate in test executions.

Communicate regularly and appropriately:
Participates in daily department report out.
Develops spreadsheets within current software to provide report information as required.
Prints and distributes reports to related departments.
Duplicate or writes reports in a way test reports can be distributed differently for
Researches and resolves variances and discrepancies in numbers.
Critically read through feedback and incorporate and/or provide appropriate return feedback to internal and external reviewers including but limited to customers and government agencies.

Train others
Document responsibilities corresponding to improved processes including automation.
Assist and train at others at Ricon and at other Wabtec facilities.
Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum BSME, BSE, BSEE, BSIE, BS (Applied Physics) or equivalent bachelors degree. Preference for engineering degrees from ABET accredited institutions.
Minimum 3 years of experience in Test Engineer role.
Minimum 1 year of experience with Labview strongly preferred.
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). SharePoint experience would be a bonus.
Proficiency in drawing decision trees or network effect branches preferred.
Detail-oriented with proven skills when it comes to organization and prioritization
Ability to read mechanical drawings for Bill of Material information.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to exercise appropriate judgment when executing tasks without supervision
Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects at any given time and to operate within an organization that conducts business across multiple time zones
Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, prioritize, meet deadlines, and be resourceful/flexible, all while maintaining absolute professionalism and confidentiality
Must possess enthusiasm, flexibility and creativity, and be willing to assume challenges/increased responsibilities
Ability to quickly learn internal processes and the basics of who to reach out to with questions
Aptitude and attitude to learn as processes improve and technologies overcome previous obsolete technologies.

BSE, BSME, BSEE, BSIE, Applied Physics, or Equivalent Bachelors with a minimum of three years of experience in testing required.

Other Qualifications: Bilingual Spanish English is helpful. Background check, drug test and pre-employment physical required of successful applicant.
