PSEG is seeking an intern for the assist the State and Governmental Affairs (SGA) team in the Newark, NJ location – with opportunities to work on other sites including Trenton, NJ.

The successful candidates will support the State Government Affairs organization in identifying key political and policy issues impacting the business as well as assisting the organization in the implementation of PSEG’s public affairs objectives.

The position will require research and analysis to help inform the organization on various policy matters (with an emphasis on energy-related issues) and to ultimately determine PSEG’s position on them. This may entail: evaluating legislation, regulations, and white papers; reviewing the political landscape at the state, county, and municipal levels; devising plans to effectively communicate policy positions to internal business units, external stakeholders, and policymakers; and aiding the State Government Affairs organization in engaging key constituencies, including education and/or advocacy on various subjects.

Specific policy areas of interest include emerging issues and market dynamics impacting existing business models in the generation, transmission, and distribution of energy.

The preparation of a briefing that is appropriate for executive-level communication regarding a critical business initiative is expected prior to the conclusion of the summer program.

The position is primarily based in Newark, NJ, with opportunities in the Trenton office as well as in the field.

Required Education/Skills: The successful candidate(s) must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Affairs, EBF or other similar/related major from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates must have completed sophomore level course work for consideration. Candidates must have excellent oral and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail. PSEG recognizes institutions of higher education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. GPA information MUST be included on your resume for employment consideration.

All PSEG internship roles are paid at an hourly rate, however there are no benefits associated with these positions. Candidates are expected to work 40 hours per week over the summer period for the full 10-12 week period. We are targeting: Currently enrolled students with GPA of 3.0, staying in the NJ/NY/PA metro area for the duration of the internship and able to commute to the assigned work location. Housing, transportation, immigration Support will not be provided in association with these positions.

As an employee of PSE&G or PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations.
