MARTA is seeking to fill this position located in Atlanta, Georgia:

Heavy Rail Transit Experience Required

*Manages and oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive program for the commissioning of new transit vehicles and subsystems, and the rehabilitation of existing rail vehicles and equipment for the rail transit systems.

Ensures transit vehicles and systems are designed, manufactured, installed and tested to ensure compliance with contract specifications and a safe reliable transit system. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.


  • Establishes appropriate objectives and priorities that support the goals and objectives of the Director of Rail Car Maintenance.
  • Develops appropriate documentation and reporting mechanisms necessary to measure performance and adherence to established goals and objectives for the administration of the group.
  • Oversees contractors and external vendors’ activities during development and implementation of commissioning plans, policies and procedures that impact testing and/or acceptance of new and rehabilitated rail vehicles and rail sub systems.
  • Conducts program review meetings for various diverse areas, including but not limited to: contract terms and conditions; pricing and milestone payments; design; engineering requirements; quality; reliability, maintainability and safety (RMS); installation; testing; acceptance; and warranty administration.
  • Provides oversight of the General Engineering Consultant (GEC) staff activities during the testing and acceptance of rail vehicles based on the Authority’s approved schedule.
  • Works with RCMRE’s Contract Officer Technical Representative to initiate, coordinate, and implement contract activities with the departments of Contracts and Procurement, Budget, Risk Management, Audit, and Equal Employment Opportunity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering, Physics, Engineering Technology or related field.

Minimum of six years of experience in heavy rail transit system commissioning with at least three to five years related to rail transit vehicle rehabilitation methods and repair. Knowledge of transit car engineering, quality and configuration requirements and familiarity with all major subsystems highly desirable.

Demonstrated verbal, writing, and problem solving skills essential. Must possess experience in the management of transit system operations and maintenance. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Georgia is desirable. Experience may substitute for degree on a year-for-year basis.
