ISS is seeking an Executive Compensation Research Analyst to join our US Research Team. This position is based in Rockville, Maryland.
We are seeking a resident subject matter expert for U.S. Research staff in the area of U.S. executive compensation and benefit programs and practices. The ideal candidate could come from a compensation consulting practice, a law firm, proxy solicitor, or even corporate HR (although focus should be on executive compensation, not broad-based benefits). Our analysts are a part of a highly specialized research team focused on a key area of corporate governance that is of critical importance to institutional investors – executive pay. In this role you will be a source of expertise and guidance both internally with other analysts, and externally in interfacing with clients and issuers. Familiarity with pay-related corporate governance issue is important.
In this role you gain experience working inside our collaborative team environment and will often:
Research proxy statements for high profile/contentious U.S. company shareholder meetings, focusing on executive compensation issues in the areas of incentive programs, perquisites, and benefits
Complete written analyses detailing ISS vote recommendations and rationale related to compensation issues
Support the ISS standard research team staff in their analyses, and review staff’s work with the compensation model
Lead and/or participate in ISS policy formulation relating to executive compensation
Respond to client and company inquiries to explain ISS’ compensation policies and model methodology and answer questions as necessary
As requested, work with Marketing and Sales to pro-actively promote our compensation policies to the industry
Interface with technology tools to conduct accurate and meaningful analysis, following established procedures and processes
Recruit and train full-time and temporary research staff on executive compensation policies and methodologies
As appropriate, maintain and update ISS’ existing quantitative models on equity compensation
MBA or equivalent work experience
Strong analytical, verbal and written skills
Ability to work within a team-oriented environment
Strong attention to detail
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Demonstrated familiarity with U.S. executive compensation issues
Highly knowledgeable in the areas of executive compensation and benefits
Financial analysis and or equity analysis skills and expertise
Familiarity with concepts of corporate governance
Ability to explain complex compensation issues to clients and staff
Ability to understand and work with compensation modeling programs
